    Gun shopping

I have the misfortune to be in Auckland this week. Will use the opportunity to do some tyre kicking in the gun shops. May purchase a new bolt action. It has to be lighter than a standard Tikka and more pointable if you know what I mean. Something that comes up to the shoulder easily and feels right. Any suggestions?

That's gonna be some gun if you are kicking its tyres

that way you get a floor plate rather than a blind mag too

I need that stainless finish but man it would be way cooler if the montanas had that floor plate too

May be a single shot of some sort?
    It'd be light and pointy

My favourite rifle is a Bergara BA13 with a 16 inch barrel in 300BLK. I use it for hunting goats at short range in dense bush and it's very effective. Although not light, it is very pointable. I like it so much, I was thinking about getting the same rifle in stainless .308 and putting a decent scope on it with a big magnification range. This would cover most of my bases. If I went down this route, I would probably sell the 300BLK. Having said that the 300BLK is surprisingly devastating with the right rounds, so I could just stick with it. Thinking out loud now!

    This would be perfect: https://www.nzhuntingandshooting.co....bushpig-85313/
But I see you sold your Tikka 7mm-08 for ammo availability issues.
I think if you didn't use the Tikka 7mm08 you're not going to start using a .308 of similar ilk either? They are for all practical intents and purposes the same.

Also don't bother with the stainless baffles in the DPTs in future like on your old 7mm-08, adds weight with no tangible benefit. If you fire enough rounds to worry about the erosion on the first baffle just replace it (spoiler - you probably don't fire enough rounds to worry).

Fair point. It's really about having it should the opportunity arise. Woodhill Ballot, or an invite down south etc. Aside from one trip this year, the 7mm08 stayed in the gun safe and probably would have stayed there for another year. I'm in no rush to buy anything, was going to use the opportunity to check out a few different guns. I wouldn't buy 7mm08 again purely because of ammunition availability, no other reason.
