I'm mindful of when I went into my local arms office, as I wanted an S43A form to purchase an A cat firearm from a different city here in New Zealand (they had just imported it for me and had it in store already) and the arms officer I struck was a woman. She marched me upstairs into the interview/interrogation room, in front of the video camera (don't know if it was on or not) and pulled a book off the shelf, threw it on the table and said "here read this. If the firearm you're after isn't listed in there, then you're not allowed it!" (and about that abruptly too!) Well, I read it, and guess what, the firearm I was after (a Volquartsen 10 shot semiautomatic 17 HMR) was not listed in there!

I managed to get onto a man cop and the form was expedited to me promptly, by patrol car, "hand delivered to me personally, at my address"!

You see, women lack the ability to use discretion, and therefore, automatically default to the book, and WHAT A BOOK THEY HAVE!
As clickbang said; the head of the Dunedin arms office is a woman and she's good to deal with.
You come across as a bloke that hasn't gotten any action in a while mate....

If you don't think its a load of crap to say that "women lack the ability to use discretion", then I don't know what you think crap is.

He dealt with a crap police staff member who was a woman, thats his experience and no issue with that. Claiming all women are like that just makes him look like an idiot.

Really dude? Your reading comprehension is really crap if you didn't pick up what the issue was. Set your clock back 300 years - you may feel more at home.

This is the response from COLFO

"My advice would be to provide the information Police require and if your permit is refused consult with Nicholas Taylor Barrister who specialises in firearms law. If other COLFO members come up with anything better I will get back to you."

Are COLFO, or NSA going to help pay for a barrister to write letters to the police?

What if the cops still say no and you have to take them to court? How much will that cost? I would guess more than the gun cost.

I shot him down for being a fuckwad by saying that a woman has half the brain of a man

Are you saying that shit too?

If he had said something about firearms, reloading, hunting or ideal bullet placement I would have been interested to hear him - what he said was that women are idiots

    I don't bother getting offended, I just think he's a total spankcarrot

If you can accept that women are human then you may consider that they have something worthwhile to say and even that the diversity that other people (ie not just Bubbas and rednecks) bring to the discussion can be valuable because other people see things we don't - they literally help us to see the same thing with new eyes

I believe this is a hunting forum sunshine, so if you wanna hunt you had best consider all of the things that you cannot directly see or else you will just be a crap hunter who blasts lead in no particular direction without much success

The thing about having a blind spot is that you don't know how big it is..

Interesting. Seems the police habit of enforcing policies that aren't grounded in law is a common thing throughout the commonwealth.

What if you were to import a complete action without a barrel, or to have junker 308 barrel threaded on as an oddball wildcat with an excessively large base diameter.... not much they could do about that. You could then separately import the barrel, or just have one custom made for that matter.

Reason for ownership is pretty simple really. You want to send a very high energy bullet to a target at a much greater than normal distance, and you want it to get there with minimal wind deflection and energy loss.

I guess they use AI rifles in 308 and don't want to be faced with something bigger than what they have ? But if it a Barnard rifle , it s ok!

Suppose the same would happen with 550 NE , 600 NE and 700 NE?

Talk about trying to solve a problem that does not exist.
Since when is such gear used in crime, your token hood isn't going to spend minimum $8 a pop to run a $6500 USD firearm.
Nothing but a low attempt to restrict & regulate importation. I hope some one successfully takes them to task over it.
Approved ranges are irrelevant when you can purchase one made here.
We all operate within the law, why can't NZ police stick to their mandate too.
Are Wills fishing and firearms no longer an agent for AI?

I heard they were so useless at representing the brand in NZ that an Australian company got the right to sell in NZ .

Since there is no upper limit in caliber to use to kill stuff in NZ , the aproved range usage is irrelevant if you are going to use it for hunting I guess?
