Anyone know what the story is here in the communist state of Aus? I imagine scopes will be viewed as deadly bits of kit here in the same way that moderators are.

    Thank you for your email.

Scope mounts are not considered parts pursuant to the Arms Act 1983, therefore a permit to import is not required.

    Kind regards,
    I asked.

No permit required to import a scope into australia (Spitfire). (If that is your question?)

+1 - Joel at Cameraland is very good, dealt with him a few years back. Great deals.

How about for Scope mounts? - I needed an import permit for some Optilock rings last year - no bases that would attach to a firearm - just the rings!

Digging up a slightly old thread here, but I'm looking at importing a pair of binos. I'm trying to work out what the go is with the $1000 limit for customs duty. The item itself will be $998NZD and shipping will be $112NZD.
The total cost is obviously over the $1000 limit, but I can't work out if customs takes into account the shipping cost or just uses the value of the item when deciding whether it needs duty paid. I've used the duty estimator and it suggests that I won't have to pay any duty, but I've read elsewhere that suggests they take shipping into account.

Does anyone have any experience in this sort of case? It's a pair of Tract binos, from memory @Tahr is the local expert on Tract?

Their binos are great. I have 2 pairs. And 2 of their 'scopes.
Customs seem to use whatever value the seller declares on the package.
