    Needing a new scope.

My old faithful has finally let me down. Have had a bushnell elite 3200 3-12 for about 6 years on top of my 308 t3x. Went all foggy on me during my last hunt and suspect she’s on her last legs ( I purchased it second had ) but has done we well.

I’m obviously looking at a new scope, I shoot mostly in the bush but have been pushing it out to 2-3 hundy lately and have been loving being able to drop animals at distance ( close range for some of you no doubt ) I made the fatal mistake of shooting a mates 7mm rem mag with a Swarovski on top but don’t shoot enough animals to warrant spending that kinda $$. Just after some advise from who using what and why, potential scopes to be looking towards etc. I do like 3-12 zoom but haven’t really known anything different from my elite 3200. Don’t want to spend the earth, looked at a leupold vx5 but that’s as far as I have got.

the backup service on leupold is fantastic. i actually snapped one in 1/2 while taking a tumble down a bank and they gave me a new scope!!
same can also be said for buck knives.

however i do also like my minox

Leupold vx freedom with firedot may be a nice option.

Ha yeah no doubt I am but I’m thinking maybe it’s a bit much scope for what I do??
I know I should get it and probably will when I sell a kidney to get it

Yes i agree, for your uses you can quite happily get away with a scope much less expensive than a VX5.

I'm 99% sure the e3200 have lifetime warranty.

I sent my E4200 back after it did the same. New seals, re gassed it, all for 20 dollars freight.
No need to provide receipt either. As mine was 2nd hand aswell. I just took it into the local store. Had them send it away. Worth a go if its still doing the job. Only reason I upgraded was I now shooting past 200m

For the distances you are looking at don't overlook a VX3i with the new CDS-ZL elevation turrets - 4.5-14x40 is a great option for a hunting scope. You can choose it in either 1" or 30mm tube, good glass, good light transmission. The CDS-ZL is a zero lock turret that will give you 15MOA for dialing up range if you want to go long and will take you easily to the ethical range of a 308. You mentioned budget as a consideration - this will stay under $1400.

Yes agree that class of scope is more than good enough, there is plenty of options of similar class scopes in the 4-12 or 4.5-14 range that will be available 2nd hand at just half the money of a new VX3i too.

See if you can get the existing scope repaired under warranty. That's another 200 ta 300 bucks towards your new scope. I really should sell my 4200 but it's my just encase scope in the cupboard

I ended up with a VX5 and it's miles ahead of the bushnell. Especially at low light.
A few friends went from vx3i 4.5x14 to vx5 and say its lla big improvement. But the vx3i will still do what you need.
Just depends how much you want to spend.

A few cheaper 4 to 12 or 14s will be okay if you are not dialing. But I would recommend spending a bit more to ensure its repeatable. That way you can grow into it if needed. I had a scope that would hold zero
But when dialing a few times it wouldn't settle at the same place. Pretty useless really.

up to 2-300 yards...not dialing (any why the hell would you for under 300????) you dont need a heap of scope....I do it happily with a 3x9x40mm vx1
also with older vx11 3x9x50mm and will do it with fixed 4x too
if you have the $$$$$ to buy a better class of leupold...go for it...good glass is awesome.....I tried a 4x12 and hated it..absoluted hated it...cant put finger on why but it just didnt do it for me at all.
