Anything with a cocking handle forward on the reciever and HOD recess at the rear of its travel is faster than an AR.

Steyr is what I am most used to. I can generally tell what type of stoppage I have by feel and sound.
Double feeds can be the most time consuming IME.
Like gimp says if you have a well tuned rifle, stoppage drills should not be a huge concern, especially if you prepare for a big match properly.
I fired thousands of rounds thru an AUG and only recall stoppages using blanks.
Never had one in any comp apart from not loading my mags correctly and running short on a serial😆

The team at gunsnz.com have some nice stuff, although just AR and they sell the JP with side handle.

JP PSC-11/CTR-02 Practical Side Charging 223

    and also sponsor 3Gun.

I admit part of the problem is being a lefty and the Steyr has the cocking handle on the wrong side too far forward. Not a problem on an AR or SLR with the handle well back on the reciver. As far as Steyr reliability it seemed to depend on your luck with your issued rifle. I had jams with both blanks and live ammo but poorly loaded mags may have contributed as well as sand/volcanic ash/dirt etc. Some of the Australian made ones were not too good, a friend messed his hand up pretty bad when the plastic cocking handle broke exposing metal.

Can't vouch for the ACR or other American designs but so far my experience is that even the cheap ARs tend to work well with minimum maintenance and jams. I have only had issues with brand new rifles being a bit tight. Apparently some of the cheap 5 shot mags can cause problems also.

I am a bit wary of the idea of an AR with an aftermarket piston setup. No personal experience but read lots of negative comments and would be concerned about the receiver as it is alloy.

I got a new barrel, working parts, piston and gas plug about every 6 months. Never went to ASSAM or the like without new gear. Kept my own trigger group as it was worked.

Very nice piece of kit indeed, you would not be making a mistake with these. A mate here has one and a matching one in 308

LM-5. Dependable, accurate, unique. Slow (1:12) twist though.

Lot of people's lives cut short by this weapon... certainly wasn't due to its looks.

I have narrowed it down to the JP PSC-11 and the Sig 516.

Fair enough, I think the opposite aesthetically, I think it looks purposeful.
