    But..... in my experience it is that is not retrospective so you would have to have brought it first (without saying anything) before you could use the "beg forgiveness" rule
    So I humbly suggest if you buy it now she knows you will be in the poopy and deeper poopy if you try and say she said it was ok to buy it

    Just buy a cheap norinco and get it out in front of her and give it a scrub for a few hours, when she asks why your cleaning it so much just tell her it's sadly the one being sacrificed to buy that one.
    At least makes it look like your giving something up for it, which is all they really care about.
