Thread: savage axis, what a complete POS!

I just bought an Axis in 270 and gave it to one of our staff whos starting out and is struggling a bit with the dollars for getting a rifle. We went and sighted it in yesterday and just as I thought, being a savage, it shoots bloody well.
I have another buddy who only owns just one rifle, a savage axis in 223, hes had it since the axis models first came out and apart from the stock snapping clean in half through the pistol grip area (was actually me that was responsible for that, went tits up with it over my shoulder and it snapped clean through) it has served him bloody well, it now has a boyds laminate stock on it, which actually makes it look not too bad and has accounted for more animals than 95% of the sakos owned by members on this forum put together and it still shoots bloody well, he has a decent scope on it as he saw the merit there but the rifle does all he needs, while he may not be rich in a monetary sense, he certainly is time rich so him and that little rifle know each other very well.

PS: now I have a sako, I cant own another rifle

When ya worker upgrades to his first Sako, I dibs the twenty seven oh. My 223 will take a head off a bunny at 200m 9/10 times. As you said not pretty, horrid stock but accurate enuf for me

Yeah I noticed that the stock is kinda flexy through that area of the grip. Didn't notice it when using it, but I could definitely imagine breaking one if you fell on it with a bit of weight. One with a laminate stock would be fantastic.

I like my 788, it may not be new and in baby-killer black plastic. Certainly not crap in my eyes. But, that's just my opinion

yer i just purchased a savage accustock weather warrior after looking waiting looking pulling my bloody hair out, fuk its hard being a southpaw i already got a tikka so didn.t want to buy an other
new savage out shoots the tikka has a 3 position safety in the centre of the stock just behind the bolt so you can load or unload with mid safety on and bolt is locked on full safetyaccu trigger seems to have improved from the last savage i had if not down the dunny it goes and a timney trigger fitted and it still be $110 cheaper than the tikka in left hand one good thing about tikka is that they come in a full range of calibers

Everyone has different tastes and budgets, but we would all love to be able to afford $1000+ tastes
Personally I can't justify the money for a Tikka or Sako or similar, but the 20+ year old Ruger M77 I have in 22-250 has put plenty of meat on the table over the years. Bought second hand with a Nikko 4x32 on it. Still does the job for me.
New to me now is a second hand Marlin X7 7mm-08. Looks worse, feels worse, weighs more, but shoots just as well as my Ruger so I am happy with it.
When the kids run away from home perhaps I'll be allowed to buy a brand new T3.

And not everyone has a "Savage" unlike Tikkas

Yip. I got a second hand Savage with the bolt handle on the wrong side for my eldest daughter. No accustock but even I can shoot it left handed just as well as I can shoot my own one right handed. Both shoot sub MOA.

Haha whereas I managed to fall 3m tits up with my Weather Warrior 116 .270 & get nothing but a couple of teeny tiny scratches on the forestock, while 2 fractured vertebrae & 9wks later it's still looking fresher than I ever will

Yep, had same issue finding a lefty as most of you, but damn happy with my weather warrior (although there's still a good range of decent lefty option). Shot sub MOA first time out of the box & will do sub MOA whether I use $70 a box Hornady SSTs or $30 a box Highland or PPUs. No shortage of calibres available in the 16/116 either @57jl. Admittedly a few less in the LH, although they cover most of the more common calibres.
