    Looking at a lot of these comments I am bloody glad my stable of optics is nearly all nf.
    Alot of whingeing goes on here about the price of nightforce but it's becoming apparent now that there is reason for it!
    The 3 R's
    Rugged reliable repeatable and no out rageous shipping charges if something needs doing like a reticle change.
    Nightforce are in for the long haul so there is where I will stay.

    Nightforce lightforce is the same company.
    All owned by one man.
    The main reason all military optics are built in the usa is they then become eligible to be used by the us military.
    Most of their other scopes are produced in japan under very strict qc using LOW.
    Even their big atacr are made there.

    Yea well, doesn't seem to matter if I bought it second hand or not. Even if you're the original owner, this is what you'd expect. Warranty would be something I'd consider before spending a significant amount of money on optics, it's a shame I didn't in this instance. Sharing my experience may help others. Maybe you'd feel different if you were in my position?

    No I wouldn't.

    Perhaps you would have made another choice of brand if you had researched S&B's warranty policy before purchase?

    If a client of mine wanted a free repair on a house that was build a decade ago after several owners,they would either receive a two word answer or a bill for the work.

    I have Swaro,Zeiss,S&B as well as Meopta on my Rifles here.

    I can't say there is much between them in terms of clarity.The most surprising is Meopta,considering it's the least expensive of them all.

    I once owned a 3-12x50 PMI that had amazing low light brightness and clarity...just amazing.

    But after 4 years the lens in the rear ocular bell started making a noise. I sent it to S&B and had to send a number of e-mails before they replied they had received it. They had it for 3 months before I got it back at no charge, which was great as it was outside their 2 year warranty restrictions.

    However where they had used the tool to unscrew/take apart the ocular bell, they had made a very noticeable scratch along where the diopter eye piece fits into the ocular bell. With no mention whatsoever of the large scratch at all with the returned paperwork...

    Seems their quality has hit the shitter since they opened the factory in Hungary, even the German scopes not as good.

    Plenty of horror stories on US forums (they have a repair centre there!), no wonder they have lost a large share in the precision rifle market (which they held from pre-2000's till about 2010).

    Have had 2, one of the first 'Precision Hunter' 4-16 with P3 ret and a 5-20 Ultra Short.

    Only got the first one now but that may go soon!

    Had 2 issues with nightforce scopes and had a mare getting them repaired as were bought in Australia, so I would be struggling to ever go there again. If I ever feel like dropping ridiculous coin again I'd probably go for Tangent theta until then I'll stick to leupold and Vortex Razor2.
