Im shooting a Mod 70 in 308. Tried several different types of bases and rings but were never happy with consistancy.

Ended up ordering me a pic rail from Badger Ordnance and a set of rings. Worked so good I forgot about consistancy issues until I saw this topic.

No issues feeding from the top.

i peronally would consider this base for a winchester 70

leupy wont let you down and has more class than a pic rail (my opinion only)
of course you would have to get rings too

That's basically a one piece base the same system as my 2 piece bases. Turn in type in the front and windage rear.
There are several doing that and apparently different manufacturers rings will work between bases.
So if a ring had a slight different height or feature you wanted you could mix and match but I havent tried it myself

Leupold two piece std bases have been on my 308 model 70 since 1988. Also same fitted to a 223 M70 sinceabout '92. Never had a problem with them and i use my rifles hard, no babying them. Its a good robust sytem, if you break them in a fall or something I'd say they'd be the least of your problems. The only downside may be that they aren't quick release as if that matters, Leupold M8 4x scope has been on the 308 since '88 too.
