@mawzer308, a standard over barrel should fit easily after cutting the barrel 3 or 4". 15x1, 16x1 or 5/8-24 could be done , the latest being the most popular.

I recommend getting them to do the chop and thread. I had a 7x57 chopped and threaded in advance by my gunsmith, took it to DPT to have their can fitted, GS had got it wrong and had to chop that thread off and do it again. Least I had the barrel length to play with. DPT guys were great, what was meant to be a 20 min job they fitted into a busy morning and had me out of there in and hour and a half. Just make sure to book it in, and go read a book for an hour.
I know a lot but it seems less every day...
the trick will be finding something good ballistically that will still expand.....and will ballistic form matter a hoot if subsonic??? or is a flying brick the same no matter its shape?
Not planing on sub use, not much point high B.C's are no benefit at 1000fps and the range is limited to 100 metres,
And .44's are not quiet well mine isn't Loaded 6 grains of Traill Boss with the 280 gr sounded like a STD velocity .22Rf
drop from 50m to 100m was 600 mm and accuracy was non existent ,
With the soft lead I use and a velocity over 1200 fps they will expand ok 1500fps is attainable with a 250 grain cast.
Didn't say the velocity was 1000 fps, Just said it was slow, I was looking for the lowest load for Traill Boss in the .44 mag 6.0 grains would be it,
And you are correct Traill Boss is not the best for accuracy but it is the easiest for subsonic loads in most calibres and I would not recommended it in the
.44 Mag with heavy bullets AP70 is better if it can be found.
Thats good to know about AP70N. Hogdon sell it as Universal. I do a lot of slow loads in rifle with old ICI Nobel Shotgun Powder No 78. In 303B 1000 - 1600fps. Very accurate with your cast 215gn. There's still a bit around from old Shotgun reloaders. Very useful stuff. Big flakes. Work up loads using Red Dot data. Goes real well in 357mag with 158gn pills also. Will do some in the 44mag alongside AP70N.

30 years ago, my go to load (from memory), was 18 grains Blue Dot behind a 180 grain projectile for 1800fps out of a Marlin lever. Killed well above the paper stat's.
Yes the 35 cal is an excellent choice people seem to forget that in the Black powder era bullet diameter was important as velocity was only 1500fps or less
The .35 cal was used as a small game cartridge the same as the .22rf is now it is only since smokeless powder that the .22rf has taken over from the .35 as a target
round even the Europeans used 8mm to 9.5mm black powder cartridges for target shooting/small game.
My bad for not clarifying, the load I posted above was for the .44 Mag.
I found that the 180 grain projectiles pushed hard were more effective than the heavier projectiles, and in my Marlin, that load would shoot 1 1/2" or better three shot groups at 100. I could usually get two holes to touch, but could never quite achieve a clover leaf. Its a hot load, and very snappy on the recoil. Factory hard/checkered butt plate would rub the skin off your shoulder.
This is the one aso a 250 grain available

30cal subs are considerably more quiet than 44cal subs but the 44 is quite a bit more quiet than 450bm so I quite like the 44 as a good compromise that still puts big holes in things
I’m looking forward to what the 8.6 creed/blackout with fast twists turn out but as a set and forget 44 is better again If we can get a lead hollow point like an overgrown version of the 155 30cal lead cast as they are deadly and make things super economical
