The limiting factor is if you do it seriously you need a lot of ammo and you lose a lot of cases - or I do anyway.

I used up about 90 rounds this trip and the last trip closer to 150. I kill about 75% of sightings and average about 1.5 shots per wallaby with some rabbits thrown in.

The bloke we shot for gave me 600 once fired .223 cases to bring home so Im sweet for a while now - just have to reload them.

Also the 6mm Creedmoor will chew a barrel in next to no time if you really get stuck into them. Just that bit too overbore for a high rate of fire. A .223 REM makes a lot more sense.

After spending an improbable amount of time hunting for brass in the grass, I have started to lay a lightweight canvas sheet under the rifle and to the right hand side, for when I spend a fair amount of time shooting prone. And hey presto I don’t lose any cases. I remember going out shooting with a guy in W.A. who carried a small hand held metal detector that he got for prospecting, about the size of a large smartphone. Brilliant! He didn’t lose any brass. Always meant to get one of those.

Lots of worms in them over here also. No impact on there health it seems. Have evolved with it them. If I remember correctly from uni days where we took gut samples they are mostly barbers pole family , strongulus?

So he finally cleaned out the footwell of his truck did he?

suggest you fill some of those cases with some v or ZMAX projectiles....the 50 grn loads really shine for me.

went up to my usual DOC block today...pissing with rain...saw 3 long way away and 3 fast ones up close....no shots fired...think the population may have collapsed.very little to eat as per usual in this block but the lack of animals was bizzare considering how far we went including a big open bush bash WITHOUT spooking a single animal.

Had a short walk the other day in the 1st bit of sun for days just up behind my place.Heres a roos lying in the sun 2mtrs off the track 500mtrs from home.I couldn't get the phone out quick enough for a photo.He just hopped away and stopped amongst the trees but not for long.Half growen hopper.

NB... forgot to mention ,I was using the Tikka 223 rifle....

@A330driver Great. Its only the 69 grn Targex that I stretch to those 400 yd ranges. They hold to .5 MOA to 500yds on a good still day. Rem Model 7 with 3-15 Zeiss.

The 56 grn Geco Ive only used out to 300 yds odd using a Savage Lightweight and Nightforce 3-10 SHV that they are sighted in for.

The Geco ammo in the Savage flattened this Fallow at 176 yds on the same trip.

The 308 Targex shoots good as well

You can stretch a 223 out even further on a nice still day.

Here's a recent effort of mine with a 69gr TMK @ 2960ft/s. Range was 615m .

Yeah ..good one mate....not with a 56grn.....nice shot

Great trip, Rod filled me in on the hunt, must get down there with you guys one day. Rod is here now ready to go hunt Sika Wednesday so we are hoping the weather settles which it is supposed to.
Some nice shooting there Bruce 400 + yds is a fair way for a 223.
