I had maxxis buckshots on my last hilux and was getting 40000km plus out of a set with a lot of road use. Got bridgestone a/t on my current hilux and will not be buying them again . paid 600 for a set but cant imagine getting 40000km from them. More like a road tyre.

HaHa Tahr get a set of mud tyres and if you drive like people your age should, you'll probably find they are not slippery on the road.
Or get AT's and carry a set of chains.

its what im running with , fantastic tyre.
flick me a p.m with your size and I can work you a deal.
tyreshoponline lost Hercules as the company didn't like them selling direct , I can sort them though.

i dont know about GT radials on offroaders etc but i had their road tyres on a sports car, after 2 weeks i replaced them. they had the grip of a teflon coated ball bearing on a sheet of glass. the arse end of the car would go loose every time the turbo kicked in.

had a couple sets of gt radial mts on my l200 4wd never experienced that unless I tried to do it.traveled up and down the south island quite a few times, mind you a diesel wont put massive power down like a sports car.

@berg243. mine were horrific, owned the car 2 weeks before getting some goodyear F1 tyres on it.
i put the gt's on trademe with the listing that they were unsuitable for serious horsepower and they tended to break loose. guy buys them and tells me "yeah thats what i want them for", he loaded them in his car and then left 2 long trails of rubber down the road when he left.

obviously I must drive like a nana,i never pushed my ute in the corners or speed as I have seen to many 4wds rolled over from being driven like a car might be why I never had any issues with loss of traction unless I was trying to throw mud.

Thanks for the suggestions and advice everyone.

I decided to go for the Hercules Terra Trac deep tread.

I received some very good advice from a forum member about going up a size to re-calibrate my speedo to keep my Road Charges down.
Also got a good deal from the same forum member so its well worth hanging around here.

Watch for speed cameras with your re-calibrated speedo. Could be cheaper to pay the diesel miles.

If I'm correct it will bring it up from under speed to near dead on. I will check it with my GPS. But I agree that even if its exact I will need to be careful because these modern Utes sure can sneak the speed up without you noticing.

But your economy will drop cause you won't get the same mileage per litre
