    Hunting knife 7cm blade?

I have a milestone birthday coming up and thinking about getting a nice knife for myself. Something with a 7cm blade caught my eye. A 9cm blade is what I'm used to and happy with that length. I prepare animals using the gutless technique, mostly goats, occasional deer and pigs. It'll just be for animal preparation. I don't want to chop down trees with it or do a bad Rambo impression. So, what do you think about a 7cm blade?

I use a Benchmade Bugout for processing animals in the field and it's great. Blade is a bit over 7cm.

Interesting. I'm looking at a Benchmade knife with the same blade material. Benchmade Hidden Canyon S30V

Very useful looking knife, blade shape is excellent for general purpose work. You might choose something larger if you were skinning really big or multiple animals but what normal hunter really does that in NZ?

Haha you posted that at the same time I was replying.

For me it has been an awesome knife. I have the mountain skinner as well but that is a safe queen.

That would be the alternative. Can't quite decide.

It is a very very nice knife, I find the smaller one is a bit easier to manipulate inside carcasses though, the longer one only really gets used in the last 6cm of the blade for the most part, the heel is nice for taking off hocks and the like though.

Have you got somewhere that you can go hold both in your hand? I reckon that would help.

Bugger. Do you want a side by side comparison, probably the best I can do?
