Know an old culler and that is all he uses, basic swiss army knife. Done more deer than I ever will. Probably assisted by the smoothest and fastest technique gets his deer done whilst talking and looking the other way whilst I am still making the first cut

i now just carry a small folding knife, small heavy blade and a light replaceable surgical blade.
its not a nice fancy wood handle knife that i would buy myself as a quality presant but its light and functional. point being its more than enough for taking off legs and back steaks so you dont need a long blade. if doing larger animals then backsteaks you do need to hold the cut steak clear or take an extra couple of slices.
Oh and mine is Orange and I no longer loose my knife when i put it down while repositioing what i'm cutting.
my nice wood handle knife stays at home.

I've got one of these, partner found it fishing. Don't know if it's authentic or a AliExpress knockoff, but I am really impressed with how good it is. Easy to sharpen with Lansky. has firm play free action just seems perfect to me

Hey. I've been using a knife with surgical blade for sometime. Happy with it for goats and small deer. Less useful when it came up against a big boar. Skinning blunted those blades very quickly and yes, I was cutting from the inside.

No, still thinking on it. May now have to buy a new rangefinder to replace my old one which is faulty, so that is going to come first if I can't sort it.

    Don't laugh.
I've had a nice fixed blade Kershaw and a Puma Hunters Pal.
    I now have a opinel no 8.
After 4 sambar and two fallow bucks it beats the others hands down. $30.

    PS, they do a no7
Hunt safe, look after the bush & plug more pests. The greatest invention in the history of man is beer.

Opinel are very simple little knives with pretty basic steels, but they absolute nail their grinds. Super thin little knives that cut way better than they have any right to.
