    Latest plb options

So the wife has said it'd be better if I didn't perish in the hills and is keen to get a plb or equivalent sorted (I've been borrowing one up till now). Was thinking that black fri deals might be the go.

I'm wondering what are the current best/cheapest options?

ACR resqlinks are good, they are rented out across the country. I used to rent them out on behalf of a PLB trust and they worked everytime they were activated, never had any problems. The ocean rescue PLBs are smaller and cheaper but I dont completely trust the build of them. Wouldnt recommend looking into a sat phone either, not until you have a PLB, sat phones are not 100% reliable and I have had a garmin fail on me. ACR PLB all the way! (as HNTMAD said, battery replacements are easy and can be different through most ACR retailers)

Check the one you bought. There are only a few reviews on the Repco website, but most of them talk about the PLB's being old stock/repackaged and only having 4-5 yeas of the claimed 7 years battery life.

We carry the Ocean Signal ones for work.

I haven't had to activate one but last season one of my staff did and it did its job.

I bought an ACR Resqu-link and have it in my vehicle as I am on all sorts of remote roads...I did have a SNAFU last year at a a remote hut with my Grandsons, [the details will remain supressed...lol...] BUT my NOK daughter was spoken to about 6 or seven minutes after activation, by RCC, and a chopper was on the GROUND to check on us in about 18 minutes.....In SAR emergency terms we used to always discuss the 'Golden Hour' response to potential medical events...SO why would you not 'invest' in a PLB going into the scrub? Absolute peace of mind....

Only just sent mine away last week. Cost $260 for new battery and return postage. So meant to be good for another 5 years.

@Gkp @earplay I have a GME that needs a battery replacement and was told by GME that they no longer do battery replacements. Due to this I have since bought an Ocean Signal.

Sounds like a battery replacement isn't a heap cheaper than a new GME
