Mammoth Ivory is sort of readily available, has no import/ export restrictions and doesn't cost moonbeams as they're no longer a threatened species, as opposed to Ivory. I've seen plenty at a knifemakers in Howick......if you're interested ?

Cheers. The Yanks have cracked down on all ivory, extinct or not which is kinda stupid. Good to know we are not so anal but I bet it will not be long before we are there too.
As far as knives go, I have too many to hide from the cook now, let alone another one. Thanks for the heads up anyway.

No problem. The mammoth ivory gets sluiced out of the perma-frost every thaw by locals, and comes to market at the US knife shows.
Whale teeth and Walrus Ivory is sought after. There's a lot of faked scrimshaw teeth and tusks, relatively easily copied with RTV mpilds and decent resin, then "aged" to look the part.
