If I remember rightly the original Kerphart has a distal taper but then thickens out again to strengthen the tip, at least I have seen an old picture of one that did that.

It was a fun build and despite looking pretty simple I was an enjoyable challenge and I can now say I have made a Kephart.
I am keen to find out how the knife performs once the owner has a chance to try it out.
Nice to see you using Kepharts @Tahr, they look and clearly do the job.

This has been sitting around on my bench for a few months and needed to be sorted out and finished. Kitchen knife in 14c28n, dyed black poplar wood from the Ukraine stabilized.
Used a full sized grinder on this one which was a challenge as I normally use my little grinder that's small and I know inside out.
Kitchen knives feel big after making hunting knives, always nice to do something different though and again I learn't a lot on this one.
Tried something new; small hunting knife made from blonde oak thanks @gonetropo , brass pins & green micarta linings and stihl brush cutter blade.
Just needs a polish, some oil & leather.

I have about 50 wood lathe chisels that have had the handles burnt off.... Doubt the fire would have gotten hot enough to retemper steel.
Anyone want a couple to play with?
Oops, must be the teak then?
Love to try some blonde oak wood when available.
Latest one out of my workshop, birch burl saya, ebony and mokume Gane spacers and end bits. Raindrop 1095/15N20 damascus blade.
