Great choice in Saw , Ive just upgraded this year to a new 572xp and it's a beast with a 24 inch bar on it. So easy to start and runs awesome every time. Have done all native and gum with it for next winter already . My old 359 is 26 years old and has done plenty of fencing and firewood but is now just gathering dust haha.Quote:

I actually checked the bar but only had to take the burr of that hot bit with a flapper disk.
It was the right price and knew the owner.
Got it checked at my mates stihl shop and he agreed it had done Fa.
Pity his stihl software wasn't working to see the hours done.

You never know if it's the original bar and chain as well - my only brand new Stihl came with a hard nose bar. I never used it, it's still in the cardboard. I have a handful of bars and a pile of chains, and know how much work it's done but can honestly say it's still on the first bar and chain - look it's still got the paint on the rails!!!

Cutting fallen pines with a good mate today,I used my wee 251 Stihl with 18" bar and going great.he was using one of those orange Swedish ones doing ok. I stopped and started loading trailer while he continued ringing up with his 20" bar...I took if for two whole rings then went and got my 461 Stihl out ,started it,handed it to him running and said give it arseholes.he didn't argue,switched off husky.took him four rings to get measure of Stihl then got stuck in. I did say dig dogs in and go till bogs down then back off pressure a bit...when he finished tank...and all the ringing up.he said"fuck me,that's a man's saw" huge grin on face !!!
I had the same with the little MS460 I rebuilt. That thing ran hard too, just nice to use.

How long do they take to dry out, and do you loose much of them to splitting? I've always had the idea of getting a slab to make a table, but have never got there as yet! Was a wedding thing idea for me and the wife, but ended up moving almost straight away to a rental which didn't have room and then a house where you just couldn't get a slab in upstairs!
You cut them 1 1/2 inches thick? I find that the best, they're less likely to split. I've cut 2 and 3s but always had issues with the centre splitting, even if the ends are painted.Quote:

Made lots of sawdust today. Used three of my stihls.dropped two pines around a meter across stump.both dropped textbook perfect onto inside of bulldozed track making ringing up and putting onto trailer a bit easier. My old 026 is in antisocial mode with hole in front face of muffler can poke a finger in.by shit that saw has got balls. She just cuts and keeps going.completely different to the newer saws with higher revs,she just chugs along happily throwing sawdust around. I got totally covered ,even right through clothing. Happy as pig in shit even though I'm completely shattered physically now.
Our saw, had it a few years now and basically brand new condition, it was my bil's...nice grunty saw and will get a lot of use eventually.

That is seriously under barred. Should have something about 30 inches worth to chew on.that will go like stink as it is. We run one with 42" worth of cutting edge on my mates one and it goes hard.
Yeah figured that mate, it's a bit like having a big block in a Morris minor....plenty of power but the drivetrain lacking severely. When the time is right I'll be changing the bar :)Quote:

Need to keep the chain sharp and use the 5.2amp ultra batteries and it’s pretty capable. 50cc gas saw has been left at home last few trips. I did run out of juice in the process of back cutting after scarfing a decent tree….but had a couple of 2.5amp batteries that allowed me to finish dropping it.

hmm-bitt big to fit in the stove or woodburner eh -even the log basket for that matter.split with the axe dont think so. seriously only way out methinks is to chop it into rings and go from there although its a hell of a lot of work. good working bee job that.
@ No 3 Saws not big enough, my mills only got a 50 inch bar. @kotuku working bee is on for cleaning up the head and branches, already a bit of firewoods gone but its a big job that will require much rehydration
Split them lengthwise with some nobels expanding bait to get them to a size your chainsaw mill can handle???
Id dimensional mill it, and slab some.
