You can get the Swazi Tahr with a 20% discount if you are a nzda member, the new ones are streets ahead of the older ones i reckon.
They also make a great pillow

Who owns them now? I won't buy Swazi because it's way over priced. Polar fleece is overrated

How do people feel about Kuiu raingear? I'm looking for my first actual rain gear before I make the trip over to NZ, never needed it in the desert before, and it seems like good rain gear will be a must. Any advice appreciated!

Kuiu is good. Just hellishly expensive.
I've had loads of raincoat brands over the years. My next one will be a milsurp one .

Check out warfighter athletic commando jacket. My only gripe is it could be longer to cover more of my ass. Had it in some very shitty weather and kept me completely dry. Wait for it to come up on sale though. From memory I paid about $250 each for my two jackets (one for the wife)

Traitor still owns the crappy clothing place.
He sold some of it off after he lost his nz defense contracts from my understanding. (Edit: he's still listed at 100 shares sole director split into 98 shares and 2 shares https://app.companiesoffice.govt.nz/...ingRequirement
    ).
Now some, if not a lot, of his crap is made offshore.

Yes, there were a lot of shooters that agreed with the govt knee jerk reactions. All those that thought they weren't personally affected.... nek minit.
Shame that so many bowed to the scum.

I've found Kuiu gear to be well made from top quality components. It is expensive, but I think represents good value for money cos it just plain doesnt wear out. But, some of their gear, particularly shells and rain wear, aint too popular in NZ cos of the price, and they make it their rain jackets too short. We dont want to buy matching trou so as the rain can drip off a short jacket, on to your trou, to keep you dry. Many Kiwi's like the longer anorak style wet weather gear so we can wear shorts and the rain leaves the well below your butt rather than around your waistline.

Yep I like a long rain coat as it keeps my shorts dry.

I have a thar XP and prior to that the stoney creek version but in my opinion all they are is a good wind proof garment as they hold water and just become a very damp if not wet article of clothing.

If you want a rain jacket, get a dedicated rain jacket as these aren’t, I bought a milsurp gortex rain jacket and that’s been awesome, even bought a pair of over trousers and I’ve stayed dry.
