Good stuff. These can be found basically everywhere now eh? I saw some chilling in the Whakamaru dam last night. I’m not a fan so happy to see them getting bowled over

dont know if youre aware but a lot of NZ waterfowl hunters regard canadas as our premium gamebird.

your statements lead me to the conclusion you dont have a lot of experience in hunting waterfowl

Was a mixture some were in good condition others a bit thin on it. I didn't pay a heap of attention to if they were young or old but definitely noted a few older ones. Was too busy to stop and examine them too much...

Some of the places I go they are in plague proportions. Flocks of 100+ birds. I'm also seeing more and more in the alpine tarns near where I live.
As they are no longer classed as a game bird, do waterfowl hunters target them year round?
Experience. What you get just after you needed it.

Yes this is the best way to get them from a pest control perspective. Wipe out as much of the next generation as you can...

100+ is nothing this shoot we shot 190 and that will barely make a dent in the 800 odd that were hitting the paddock in question not to mention the other 2 paddocks nearby that are also getting hit by hundreds of birds every day.

A few people around who shoot geese and yes you can hunt them year round now. But shooting a handful as a bonus while you're out duck shooting isn't the same as targeting them for a paddock shoot.

No doubt must have been a good breeding season with those numbers around.. A good thinning out wont do any harm and might make avian greedy guts think twice before returning to raid crops or grass.

Had a few fly over our place -large mob of juveniles the other day -sounded like a certain debating chamber with all the "chatter" going on -dont hear that with experienced birds.
Il be after the ferals as well ellesmere has populatipons of both so heres to hoping !

How long you had them there? I see the very odd one at Makuri.
Restraint is the better part of dignity. Don't justify getting even. Do not do unto others as they do unto you if it will cause harm.
