About 8 to 10 years, number have been steadily building, quite common to see flights of 100 plus. Cropping and new grass or plantain are magnets. There's a concerted effort now to thin numbers

They're becoming an increasing problem, not enough people target them I reckon, and they're a very smart bird. Used to enjoy chasing them down south with my brother.

What's the cost of decent goose shells or full bods these days?

Decoys are expensive but if you have a few mates that share the addiction you can put out a good spread if each shooter has a couple doz. I started out with a bunch of second-hand ones from an older guy who was giving up chasing them and just added more from there.

Came home day before yesterday travelled down the western access. At whakamaru upstream of the dam must have been 80 plus just sitting there not 50 meters from the roadway.

you can do it cjheaply by simply buling up your collection with goose silouhettes .mine which ive had for 20yrs *are simply made of 3mm mdf and painted with acrylic brown black and white.Ive 4x f/b floaters plus 12-15 shells and this has sufficed for me to take some reasonable tallies . as said earlier if you get a crew together and pool gear it can als bring success especially with young dumb full of cum juveniles(more yap than a politician or climate actrivist on the makeand always lookin to get their end away) older birds rapidly become paranoid*****and wont play the game for love nor money!
