Score 1 to the pheasant this morning. Dog tracked a running bird nearly 300m thru the scrub along the edge of a creek and it flushed just in an un-shootable position.

It was a great chase with multiple points and then repositioning as the Wiley bird made its escape.

Sometimes its not about killing the bird!!

One last crack at the ducks last night. A fair few of them sporting blue bills. Is it a hybrid of some sort?

Son and I got 5 Saturday, 3 Sunday morning, and 7 on our last day of the season - Monday. Pic shows what it's all about.

Had a rooster dead to rights at 20 metres, but dogs were on the other side of the knob, so couldn't safely shoot. I saw where it went, and got my son to follow it up. Bugger me if he had exactly the same thing happen. Is this the newest technique from pheasants to try and get rid of dogs??

Anyway. Pic of Mondays haul. Fattest ducks we have had for years this season.

Yep - had the gas cooker for a cookup of porridge for breakfast, so used the cooker to singe the birds up nice and clean. Aged for a couple of days in the fridge, then vac packed and into the freezer today.

Went out last night looking for a rooster, and just ended up with a limit of parries.

    Maybe next time.

A solo duck flew off the pond. Paddocks have been grazed so might try up there tonight if I finish work early enough.
    Bo on the retrieve.

Our duck season finished 5th June, and every day since, there have been flocks of ducks flying over my house, quacking their fool heads off. Ah well - not long to go until next season

You could always jump the boundary?

Akld/Waikato is closest, and they also closed 5th June, with parries closing this Sunday. Need to shift to CSI I think.
