They are a seasonal visitor here, and get targeted by the local Indian guys as they reckon it makes a good fish curry.
Bit skinny for my liking

My work has introduced 'wellbeing leave' It's 1 day of leave per 6 months to be use for 'wellness'. Kind of like extra annual leave but there's a semi expectation that you report back to your manager on how you used the day.
Here's yesterday's 'wellbeing day' catch. About 5 hours of myself and my wife fishing. We had a great day. It's not outstanding compared to what you guys catch but for us it was our best day yet. Took home 3 blue cod, 6 snapper, 1 gurnard. All ~35cm so nothing big but all tasty eating. Also caught a barracuda, plenty of spotties and a small kahawai.

Got away from Auckland’s deteriorating weather landed Blenhiem around 5 Allen from executive shuttles (great guy 100% reliable we highly recommend) had us into the boat and away just before 6. Light Southerly behind us on the way out. Arrived just after dark. Windy says sun and 25k wind out wide so it’s fishing tomorrow!!!
Southerly all day popped out midday to try for a fish but shelter from the wind wasn’t happening so back to the bach. In havelock right now having a meal at slip inn while I wait for friends to arrive. Another trip out in the dark but small tides arm so no logs in the water which are the biggest problem at night. 10 metre waves in my backyard today. Think I'll skip it!

Shite it’s as dark as the inside of a cow tonight- low cloud and rain but windy app said no wind and right again. A good chart plotter is a god send.
Time for a chardie
Cheers
It's been a while since I've been inside a cow but I imagine it's still pretty dark :) Not really boating weather I would think, the rain has just started here which is a nice addition to the wind. At least it's still warm
Woke up to a still morning so headed out wide around 10.30 - to windy to hit the snapper spot so went to a regular gurnard spot. Lumpy and a bit of wind but the drogue kept us below 2 kph - below this speed we catch fish above it we are drifting to fast for a hook up on target species. Anyhoo got 10 carrots then off to get cod - wind quite suddenly took off but got to one of those go to places when weather turns to shite. 6 cod later off home. Another test of the McLay hull and she came through with flying colours - we are really delighted with this boat.
Headed back around 1.30 a fun trip got airborne a few times but she just does not pound .
Filleted to the catch for a superb sounds dinner with friends ( the best part of having a place here)Attachment 273002Attachment 273002
It bucketed down all night but cleared up this morning- windy app said it would be 28-35k winds out the front / heads and sunny from 10.Attachment 273193
So off we went around 8.30 got well out and it was looking pretty average up ahead but we pushed on. Attachment 273194
Got to the western entrance and quite a lumpy sea rolling in from the north and the wind was at the upper end of the range. Decided to head for the east side of the Chetwoods for a bit of shelter. Drifted about for few hours wind got worse but we got 6 carrots. Said to the team bugger this lets get some cod then think about heading back home. Attachment 273195
Well bugger me by the time we got the cod the wind dropped right away and the sun came out - better late than ever
Attachment 273196
So off round to the snapper spot on the west side of the islands. First cast a 64cm snapper nailed my soft bait. A couple more on board by the team 60 + 62 cm then I switched to a slow jig that got nailed half way up by a 66cm jobbie.

Pulled the pin at 2 and headed home- big sloppy following sea making things interesting but set the zipwake on auto and away we went.
Big team effort at the jetty cleaning the fish and the boat shared some with neighbours and back in the bach with a wee chardy.
And the rain is backAttachment 273199
You’re dead right there shearer we were the only boat out that far and funnily enough the weather back in the sound was worse than out the front.
I don’t remember what windy app costs be but it’s cheap at twice the price.
Accurate and reliable
Really enjoy the reports AMac
Been home 10 days and haven't managed to go for a fish yet. @stingray must have been out over Easter?
10 days, try a whole year of no boating :O_O: finally dragged the boat out of the garage after fitting a bait board ( where drilling 2 X 50mm holes for the rod holders tightened my pucker quite nicely). Fired up fine, so less reasons ( apart from the weather) to not go out for a fish. Even Jack likes the idea of going out in the boat :)

Had a good day on the Firth yesterday. Managed to get in next to a harvesting mussel Barge. Managed 13 good snapper even with a couple of noobs. You could see the fish tails out of the water. Epic fishing
Quick fishy this morning with Dad and cousin.
Out of Delaware on the high at 830 gentlemen hours.
Out 30m dropped longline burley up and cousin Craig was soon into a good 12ish pound fish.
We got 6 or so more...dad landed a over 20p that we released and Craig lost another very good fish.
A nice trev and a few Gurnard we had all the fish we needed and bailed out in case the longline had snapper.
We needed have worried it only had spiky dogs on it yet we caught bugger all spiky on rods.
Great couple of hours....must be the last hurrah of snapper season in Tasman bay.Attachment 273747

Well done Cam.
We had a crack out of Stevens bay this morning. Went out to the mussel farm (20m) Water was brackinsh after the rain.
Took sons mate and his dad out with us.
Bugger all but a chilly wind, got a few small kahawai. Longline saved us with 1 (8pdish snapper) Good to send them home with a feed [emoji106] And one gurnard for us to have a taste [emoji41]
Spotted my mate so went over for a yarn. He had whole family on board bundled up in thier puffers.
Reckons they started biting just after we left. Cheeky bugger texted me this [emoji23]

The trick is to use Salted mussels and hold the line in your fingers to feel them trying to suck the mussel off the hook. at least thats what the guys showed me on the harvesters.
I used to fish off them in the sounds whilst the workers worked. It was great no stress fishing as you have zero control over where and how long you could fish, and no messy boat to clean up.
Morning drag with @stingray and @ROKTOY and flounder dog jess.
Beautiful morning , water getting colder.
We did pretty well.

The teenager is sorting tea tonight.
Fresh Kahawai, Butterflied and in the smoker with the standard butter, brown sugar and honey.
Missed out again this work thing sucks
Crap weather = available to fish
Good weather = can't fish because of other priorities.
And there has been alot of crap weather here.
