Just for fun. While my interest in fishing has temporarily waned in small way, thought I'd just enjoy a day out on the water, taking in the sights and eating fresh fish.

Had a wee fish in the bay as there were scattered small work ups all over the place lots and lots of sign on the bottom we got 2 small snapper kahawai and a gurnard. Dropped the guys at the jetty and was tootling out to put the boat on the mooring and spied a big workup on the otherside of the bay so hammer down over I go.
7” zman on a 1.5oz jig head to get down to bottom fast through the Kahwahi second cast took off stripping line like nobody’s business. Thinking bloody shark so cranked up the drag zzzzzzzz still it went anywayplayed to the top holy smoke a monster snap 82cm. Filled the fish bin with water popped it in raced back to jetty for a few photos and i got it back in water and it swam away.Attachment 248826Attachment 248827Attachment 248827Attachment 248827

Good to see some fish being caught in the sounds for once.

Good shit, well done!! [emoji106]
The bills come up awesome, buried in the garden for a bit, then water blasted, soaked in bath 50/50 h2o & bleach.
Can even see the dints in the side of the bill where they have been using it to strike pray.
I have a couple can chuck up some pic's if you are keen.

Epic that’s cool! Yep pretty addicted will tag next ones that’s a lot of meat…
How long do you keep them buried, and how long do you soak them?
I kept this one "original". Can't remember what I wrapped around the cut end but it was supposed to help suck the oil out of it. Apparently the best way to preserve them is to soak them in formaldehyde.

She who must be obeyed was making sly comments about how good fresh fish was. So, I picked up on the not-so-subtle hints and waited for the swell to drop on the local west coast beach.
Two sets with the Seahorse kontiki and job done.

Got to have a few Veges with the meat. :)
