Some nice reels there.
Can somebody in the know please advise me of locations and access to trailer boat public launching ramps around Mt Manganui? Thanks in advance :)
Sulphur Point I think it's called. Easy launch with 3 lanes and pontoons from memory.
Pretty much at the Mount.
Hi Woody, heaps of options mate https://www.google.co.nz/maps/search...!4b1?entry=ttu
Good man Gibo
Just watch the Whareroa boat ramp as you come out under the expressway and the height limit is low, ideal for smaller boats but very low traffic so always a spot on those calm days when everyone else is heading out too. Pilot bay can be a bitch to find a park and no jetty's to assist the launch. Both the Sulphur point and Nautilus ramps are well set up with multiple jetty's, my pick is the Nautilus as it can be a bit quieter:thumbsup:
Gold !!
Good on ya Gibo.

Great chat mate, no more wrong turns ;)
Catch any fish today …No
This was our yarn with the MPI official at the ramp…2 days of battling wind swells and general shit fish.
Took a days leave encouraged a work mate to do the same ..windty promised a days fishing in gentle winds …gentle they were for the first hour…but the 2 meter swell and then a screaming southerly put the end to any enjoyable fishing,
We hid out of the wind and caught our quota of spikey dogs …that I gently realeased because I’m a really nice guy and they are gods creatures!
So we measured a few cod , we tried 30 meters to 4 meters …everything was 32.5 cm …legal is 33cm it was that bad we were sight fishing
we went with lures baited with squid and were yanking the bait / lure away from the shorts and trying to hook the big bastards …they would chase a lure and grab the tag end of the bait and try to tear it off.
That said, this is why I’m a spearo …bugger hoping the fish are on the bite , get down amongst them and harvest a feed.
Any who…arrived at the ramp with nothing…MPI officer laughed his arse off at our tale …checked the boat because it was too good to believe!
Laughed even harder …you guys have a hard day.
Washed the boat , put it away ..up stairs, fire on nursing our egos , tieing rigs , hating the spikey dogs
Looking at the view ..wind cloud …it not getting any better..
Time for a walk up the hill with the hound …
we were like that with salmon in lake opuha for a season..we called them drags..they would grab a trolled lure and just get dragged long untill you noticed rod no longer bobbing, wound them in and released again, just to do same thing five minutes later....our son caught and wife released NINETY off the shore one afternoon...I was away out of earshot LOL.
they eventually got up to size and was good sport for a season before they got too old and carked it. better than the last season, lake has been toxic pretty much right through...waste of licence money...long way to other lakes to fish and we just dont like them as much so stayed home.
Wind cloud , says it’s going to blow

Nice morning on the water.
Had to wade thru a fair amount of spiky dogs (most of them looked to be in poor condition to be fair)
A couple of cuta, but they got turned into bait.
Ended up with a feed of gurnard so can't complain [emoji41]

I think I should come to Nelson area. From all your posts and all the information I gathered from past years, yeah the best fishing area in South island will be either on top of south or in the bottom. 40 odd days before Covid, I moved myself from Auckland to the city I like most, Christchurch but things and condition has changed. But fishing is the reason I work so hard in hard, hunting is the second.
Well I think I will leave Christchurch on the day after tomorrow, even I just came back for two weeks after three years to the city I like most.
What I like to ask to people in Nelson area is that except motel, is there any options for one man, a place like a home I can cook my catch, shot term rental apartment, or something similar, cost about 400 dollars a week, or 500 depends?
Well, I am open to any of you down there for a coffee or drink when I get there. Cheers
Perhaps a cabin at a campground and use the communal kitchen for cooking?
Holidayed in Pelorus Sound last week and this was our last day take home blue cod catch (5 people fishing). Caught dozens of 25-33cm cod and had to be really careful returning them when shags came visiting. the 6yr girl got really upset when shags would grab returned fish. Ended up keeping spotties to feed the shags as once full they'd paddle away. My 55cm blue was biggest of the 6 days fished. Got a couple of 45cm other days. Most keepers were high 30s.

Out of Delaware today with Dad and his nextdoor neighbor to the carrot patch, spiky dogs were frustrating and moved spots a number of times but it seemed the only place free from them was the bluffs were we watched a mob of goats.
Eventually a dozen really good sized gurnard in the bin we chased some cod.
Actually got two really good ones 47 and 48 cm and a few more in the high 30s with the obligatory undersized ones.
Moving spots seemed to be the key..get one or two kerpers then move on.
Weather was fantastic,geat day out.
Came home and donated again to the Delaware bay access group for the upcoming court case to retain public acces to this area.

I wondered whos that ute and trailer was when I took the dog for a run up the road, awesome day for it, glassy all day. Carrots have been a bit hit and miss out the front according to my weekly chats with the locals, one dinghy fisherman caught his limit of carrots last week, another only a couple and even a southern sailfish and a couple of kahawai.
Now the stirrer in me would suggest you get hold of the local marae and go all native on this one...we have been launching our waka from here for the last 29 generations, its an area of tribal food gathering importance blah blah blah treaty says public area should be open for all blah blah blah blah and maybe just maybe the dipsticks trying to close it will back off.
well then...the solution might just have to get tribal.....
Id like that but I have a FAL
no no..nothing like that...more like my fellas used to eat your fellas so piss off hairy legs,we are the top dogs around here leave well enough alone or else.
another angle.......the fish heads etc...recently been in news as good initiative to help feed folks during food price crisis MAYBE if the local fellas using the ramp as SEEN to be doing local good...maybe it will swing in your favour???
Its too late for that....its been to court....its been to the high court, they have been told they dont own it....they have payed off council members who have sent it to the environment court....the new Mayor tried to get rid of it but was overriden by the councilors some of whom where elected on this issue and have turned coats as som many do once in power.
There is a bigger agenda at stake here.....If they close this watch the access to the coast vanish all over NZ...It will set the precident.
Try the blind channel up towards the airport , we caught some horse fish this time of year , cold dirty water , one of those two prong white plastic lures trolled slow
No birds or work ups ..buggered if I know what they are eating but they were thick
