Thread: Fishing tomorrow!

Nelson diver day today,

VC picked me up at the gentlemen hour so we didn’t have to battle the tide, shot out of the local spot and headed south to hunt a couple of spots we’ve let be for the season, well the opposition ( my son had rung VC) then me spot hunting and checking the weather and even looking for a lift out to front.

VC being the good barstard he is steamed down the coast looking for the bloody pirate to help the bugger out, well the vis was great so
every point rock bit of turf had free divers or bottle divers on it. Honestly we would have seen 20 plus divers today. It was crazy .


Found ourselves a spot away from the crowds , as I was gearing up a pod of dolphins wandered past right next to the boat , just cruising not even stopping to check us out . So into the tide with great vis the search was on, found a few crays but only one the would measure, sacked that one and went round and round and round plenty of turf just bugger all life.

Back into boat and we blow me down here’s the bloody pirate on our next dive spot, he had a look into the cave and it’s a bust empty, so we left them the rest of the turf to hunt and headed for the other part of the coast.

Was a bit sloppy on the surface but clear and calm on the bottom, down on a mark and you beauty keeper crays , now to get them from the crack to the sack,

I surprised my self got a couple then a couple more damn things are looking up, needed just one more for my limit …spied a very nice keeper , so set up sorted a great approach, gently gently sneak easy easy …a small cray from the side panics flys in hits the big cray and both disappear..piss

Out of air and places to look so back into the boat, weather had picked up as forecast , second check of the catch trimmed the telcins cracked a cold one and headed for home, a beautiful summers day .

Great company yarns and venting about shit that drives us crazy and discussions about trips and boats and shit we need to do.

But please don’t encourage the little pirate , he’s a terrible human being , takes after his grandfather!

Can catch cod in sounds from today but gusting to 100kph - bugger

Kept awake half the night with the sound of the wind and gusts shaking the house huge one had me up at 2.30 peering at the boat through the dark and rain then pow at 3am it all went quiet so got some sleep.
Dog got me up at 6.30 demanding to check the possum trap - got 3 so far.
Look out window boat ok but inflatable is upside down and near new yammie 15 in the drink. Neighbours 12’ yacht sunk too. Spent morning getting the inflatable recovered and motor going then searching for missing yacht bits and we found the rudder and keel. He hand built the boat and held a launch party rightfully proud of the build so nice to help out and they only lost an oar in the end.
Got out midday but still quite windy went prospecting in sheltered bay and got nice plump cod for dinner in a hour or so and off home.
Friends and family go home tomorrow so wife and me will be doing a spot of painting the rest of the week.

That's good that there was no serious damage. The cod would have been a welcome change.
We came back over on the ferry early yesterday morning after being delayed for a few hours. Wasn't to bad a crossing but there have been a lot of delays and cancelations. I think we were lucky to get home when we did. The weather doesn't look great for the rest of the week so we may not make it back out to the bay after all.

Yeah looks like rain all the way through the weekend.

Put the net out under the ice,worked very well. Had it set in about 30 minutes after never having done it before. Cut two holes 30m apart then a slot joining the.,my mate trickled road salt into the cut as I ran the chainsaw along.

That’s hard fishing. But huge respect for getting a feed ..are you in a lake ore the ocean?
