I got myself some Smith Guides Choice for christmas - best glasses I've ever owned. Got them for under $300 from Torpedo 7.

Worst part was I managed to drop them and scratch the lenses just above my left eye the second week - it isn't quite in my field of vision luckily

These are the 'Onshore' model. Super thin glass lens, they are so light you don't know you are wearing them. The lenses I went for a graduated away from centre so its lighter where you are looking and tinted more on top and bottom (sun and glare protection.

    Maui Jim’s or Serengeti’s.
Best quality, maybe not best value.

I figure spending 150-250 every couple of years on shit vs 340 on the best is a no brainer, only way to lose out on that value is to lose the glasses

Agreed, I’ve had one of my pairs of Serengeti’s 24 years.

Sounds like the pair I had many moons ago. Unfortunately I left them in the van when I leant it to someone for a few months and they didn't come back with it.

I bought a few of these. Cheap enough that I don't mind losing them. Easy to lose them from a yak.

Just takes a while for them to arrive nowadays.

Ive got Spotters, Maui Jims, Serengetis and Strikes and thats the order I put them in for fishing clarity. The Spotters are also the most durable, Maui Jims are nicest to wear and the Seregetis are least tiring on the eyes. The Strikes are good enough for fishing but not good value / durable

The best I've ever had were pair of Serengeti that I used for general use, looking cool, driving and fly fishing. Unfortunately, they fell off my head in a fast flowing stream as I bent over to retrieve a fish...bugger! 'Downsized' to pair of Barz Optics glasses I bought at the Sika Show 2 - 3 years ago. They have a magnifying insert in each lens to assist my ageing eyes with tying knots.

Reviving an old thread here as after 3 years I still haven't decided what I want/need.
A question for those that may know, How do the photochromatic ones stack up? They've gotta be a good idea eh?

    Vuarnet sunglasses

Made in France. Glass lenses. The best sunnies I’ve ever worn. The clarity is amazing. The price tag isn’t haha. Can be a little front heavy with the lenses they use.

A cheaper option which I went to after mine got stolen are Otis. Glass lenses also. Thrashed a pair for the last 5 years and am my now up for a lense replacement because the little one pulled them off my head onto a tile floor and smashed one side.

Definitely a good option. I have some Smiths. They're primarily for trout fishing. If I was to do it again I'd get a lighter shade as I sometimes don't get the penetration in overcast conditions.
I'm not sure if there's many other options but circular polarized lenses don't get the same penetration as linear lenses. My focus is only as fishing glasses though so will have quite different needs.

The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds
