Thread: Buggar... scoped moved

Sent 50rnds of 7mm saum down the range today for load development.

Didn't notice anything lose or moving but wasn't getting great groups... heaps of doubles but close enoigh to say it could.be a bit of wind... eg. 3 ragged holes at 100, then 2 inch up another 2 ragged holes for a group of 5.

Last time I follow manufactures recommendations of 17inch lb for scope mounts. Back to 25 inch lb.

Would you completely disregard the groups?? Or is it worth re-loading 3 of each of these following and re shooting them?

look I could be wrong but coming from a target background I was always taught if one has fliers up and out to left or right such as those first two -it can be a breathing problem - fliers up and down but okay for windage can indicate a bedding problem just a thought

Oh... I actually got to the end of the 50rds, the rins had moved and the scope shifted with the recoil over 20mm forward, as well as the base of the rings were just finger tight.... could have been my dumb self doing too much at once and thinking I had already torqued up the base to rail when I hadn't... plus the 17inch lb scope rings.... in other words, nothing was super tight, the rings moved over 20mm and the base of the rings were.... movable

First question, has the scope moved ? or are you just considering it as a possibility. If it has moved then re tighten and have another go.
typing too slow. Oh right then in that case screw it all down good and have another go with the current loads you have

Scope 100% moved. Saw the original mount marks, and after the 50 the scope was at least 20mm difference.

aha the old loose scope - practising for the DOC shoot many years ago my tikka .222 started to shoot like shit - awnser metal seriously loose in wood - bugger

Pretty sure my Swarovski recomended 17 inch pound, I might have to revisit as I don't want the same thing.

Is your scope a Swarovski?

Nightforce, both my Nf were set to 17 , omy 300nm and my 7 saum... both shifted slightly.

Everytime someone mentions Nightforce, Andy gets an alert......

That'd what I thought. But should I start off with doing the loads again that looked OK?

Start with the velocity that your happy with and go up from there

Yeah, already got velocity sorted from previous day. 8fps es around 3030fps. This was just a seating depth test. Would you stick to a 3 shot group of each seating depth again, I was running 5 strings to also break in barrel. But 3 shots should be good enough now right ?

3 shots is useful for sure

havent we all been caught out like this..I know I sure as shit have been.....and I dont fire 50 rounds at a go....pick load you THINK went well and retry it...then stop using up components...you have load sorted...LOL.
