Thread: firing .22 subs and high velocity

I have a fully suppressed jw15 which i have always fired subs through. It's very very quiet which is great around my place for my family and border collie as i shoot targets quite often here.

When hunting i would prefer to use high velocity at times for more sting and range for bunnies and hares.

This may be a stupid question but is it simply a matter of adjusting the aim in height only or will i need to start from scratch when sighting in a high velocity over a sub sonic round?
If i go and buy some HV ammo, can i switch between the two types with a certain amount of clicks on height depending on what i am shooting at?

Go buy the hv ammo you intend to use and put a group onto paper then shoot a group of the sub ammo and check it. Might not need to muck around with the scope.

i have sighted it in at 40m, it'll hit high but what i don't know is will it still be straight.

probably best that i just do get a box and try it, was just curious if anyone was already doing it.

Best to try it. Each rifle is different

I just use shooter with the advertise speed minus a bit and then use the mil dots on my scope. Know what it's zeroed for each round and good to go

It may not shoot high, it may shoot low or to the side, depends on the rifle, only way to be sure is to check on a target.

Also check the supressor is able to handle hv ammo, some of them aren't and can be damaged doing so.

The suppressor is a hushpower full over barrel suppressor, how do i find out if that is all good for HV?

Talk to the person who sold it to you if you brought it new at a shop

MY Remington 597 shoots pretty much the same with CCI using Minimag subs or HV. The HV are slightly high, but still a dead bunny with either. Using a Hushpro suppressor

yeah they reckon it's all good.

My .22lr winchester shoots subbies about an inch low out to 60 then drops fairly heavily at 80-100+

I tried out some of those CCI 'Quiet' 22LR ammunition through my old bolt action with a suppressor, dam the things are virtually silent. The projectile hitting the target sounds deafening, don't think I'd hunt with them at all though.

what speed are they? I use the winchester 42g HP which are 1024fps i think and are very quiet i think.

40g HP (I think) 700-800FPS (again, I'm not sure) Pretty much useless for anything but shortish-range target shooting.

I've had a lot of fun teaching my niece how to shoot with these on the farm. I haven't been out in awhile, think I might have to get out there!
