    Adrenaline filled meat

Have a hind that's hanging at the moment, she was chased round a paddock for 10mins before I could grab her, put her on her back and get a knife in it (wasn't ideal but she wasn't supposed to be where she was, no chance to use a firearm there)

My question is what to do with the meat? Don't want to give it to the dogs as it just ends up on the carpet in smelly puddles that need cleaning up. Have some salami made up already. Don't fancy the idea of putting an entire animal through the hand mincer. Was thinking of getting it sent to town for sausages... Would this dilute any bad flavours?

Have yet to skin her so may not be as bad as I'm thinking

Pig hunters eat pigs that have had plenty of running and seem to be fine. Steak her up

Nah have gotten a bit sick of plain venison (hunting's good when that's happened) hence getting salami done with the last one. Was thinking of getting my next one done into hams that the butcher offers but that might have to wait for another animal.

Why ask what to do if you already have a plan? People dog deer too and eat them as per normal

Valid point.... Just wondering if it's going to be worth the $$ sending it to the butchers. Your right over kind of answered my own question I guess, steak it up and find out!

Listened to a podcast with a meat scientist who said that the animal needs to be severely distressed for a long period (4hrs or more from memory) for it to affect the meat

Some of our friends in China believe that meat tastes better when taken from animals that have died in pain and distress. I'm not going to post details. Horrific.

Shot some deer living in a deer trap (10 acres) for a few weeks. They most definitely knew they were caught and the meat wasn’t that flash as steak.
Even though the trap was part of a plantain paddock and even had a little gully with some scrub and plenty of grass and water in it, the weight just fell off them.

I saw this one jump the fence into the paddock so the only stress was me playing bullrush/tag with her. In really good condition living on the grass on the side of the road

I’d imagine any deer shot that’s not a straight lights out, is pumping a shit load of adrenaline round it’s body trying to survive

I've always heard you should try kill animals stress free. That includes killing a sheep .
I can't say I've ever picked the difference in what meat I have produced.

The only Deer I harvested was lights out thanks to a headshot opportunity.

Does anyone here have any experience with stressed meat?
I think Asia is not the only place they intentionally stress animals prior to slaughter. I think some arab countries were exposed and it caused problems with live export.

My old man used to hook a cattlebeast up the the electric fence for a bit if they had got a bit riled up before getting them down. No farking idea if it made a lick of difference to the meat, but he swore by it... although thinking about it, he was never one to let the truth get in the way of a good yarn...
