Bedding action and floating barrel Norinco JW105

Firstly, i wasn't expecting anything great from buying a Norinco 223 except for it to be a learning curve as it is the first centre fire rifle i have owned. I only intend to shoot a few goats and pigs with it and allow my son to shoot with it to learn as well. I expect it will get dinged and scraped which i won't be worried too much about and I will upgrade at a later date but for now i am comfortable messing with it to see what happens and learn from it.

Today i used a dremel type sanding tool and sand paper to free float the barrel which i can now slide a sheet of paper down the barrel to the action.

Next i want to bed the action to the stock. What do you recommend in the way of products to use and things to avoid? I have watched a couple of youtube videos to see what it is about to give me some idea of what i am in for.

    +1 for the devcon.
the jw103 is not the most spectacular example of firearms engineering, their barrels realy are crap, if you find it is still inaccurate you may need to have the crown recut, but as they are poorly manufactured, it is likly that the bore is not in the middle of the barrel. I have found that a 90% crown can fix accuracy problems. No garrentees tho......
good luck with it, I suppose the one thing is if it dose not work out it hasent cost too much.

this is a JW105, does that make any difference?
Before i floated the barrel i was able to hit smallish targets at 100, shot a car stereo a couple of times and put a few holes through a couple of 100mm dia posts so that's all i'm looking for at this stage. The trigger is awful and my abilities likely aren't real flash so it's probably shooting ok and all i want to do is shoot goats with it in the forestry and scrub so i don't have great ambitions for it. It's more about learning how things work, a couple of weeks ago i hadn't heard of bedding a rifle, i had heard of floating barrels but didn't understand what that was so it is serving a purpose. That and once i've been hunting a few times with it i'll know if it's the right calibre for me and what other things i'd prefer for when i get something decent so it's a good starting point.

is it worth buying random stuff to use or just getting a proper kit to do it?

Just get what I have listed and you will be better off than any kit. You will need some masking tape too.

    Blackwoods

    Part Number: 0958 9014

Its the little tubes of "Plastic Steel Epoxy" Should be about $30. One wee kit is plenty to do one or two rifles...

Sticks like shit to a blanket if you ruff the wood up a wee bit and remove any excess oil and crap. Remember Masking tape is cheap compared to having to refinish your stock or cutting epoxy out of actions or barrels...

Buy Nathans bedding kit, very reasonable, comes with a complete and easy instruction sheet, and there is an instruction video on Nathans website. And its a top product, as good as any.
