I would say maybe 2-3 times in a year my ears are exposed to a gunshot without hearing protection, and its not often enough for me to worry about personally, and when im the shooter I don't tend to realize it, much like felt recoil. I do own suppressors on a few of my rifles but that comes down to personal choice and what rifle does which job.
