Identify your target beyond all doubt
Umm… am Ithe only one that connects the fact that this happened at a service station that will have had cameras up the whazoo. Someone is telling porkies if they are saying that don’t know if or what type of firearm was involved.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms
service stations generally have excellent camera systems, heck i installed cameras that could actually read the serial numbers on banknotes above the tills , the outside ones are sometimes even in 4k.
Errr @gonetropo you haven't been playing with balloons recently have you??![]()
Ah, but a foreman with no knowledge of welding may not understand the particular issues related to his workers needs and abilities.
On the other hand, Nash (Minister of Forestry) has a masters degree in forestry management, which is a great example of why the principle doesn't always hold....
I'm not suggesting that the foreman should have no welding experience, just that the best welder should stick to that role unless he/she demonstrates management potential.
You are right on the button about Nash, though! He's depriving a village somewhere of a resident idiot!
What you're all referring to is 'The Peter Principle'.
Basically, everyone rises to their level of incompetence through hierarchies. I see it everywhere.

It's a pretty good book, written in an almost satirical manner, highly recommend.
If you are irreplaceable, then you are also unpromotable.
My old boss once told me "you get promoted to your own level of ineptitude". He was ok on the machines but nothing special, as it turns out he was incredible as a foreman and then factory manager. Having that knowledge of the job was a great background but his people/managerial skills (not trained/qualified) are what took him further than me.
