The store is under no obligation to see his license, he took the rifle in therefore the assumption would be he was the legal owner. Had he left it there for repair etc he would have been asked to produce his license when picking it up.
What most are unaware of is that the shop is also required (according to the arms regulations) to record the license details and address of the person dropping the firearm off for repair, not only on collection.
