Dealers now have to enter what ammunition you purchase into the online registration system.

So for example you purchase a box of of .17hmr from a retailer. They enter ".17hmr, 50 rounds" against your licence details.

If you haven't registered your firearms, expect contact from FSA reminding you to register within 30 days of ammunition purchase.

I consider getting my call answered, and my problem SOLVED in 90 minutes, "GOOD SERVICE!" Whether it is IRD, MSD, the Health System, Passport application, or FSA. These are all Government Departments, so by definitition they are drowning in the their own beuracracy. They are under funded, under resourced and being told to reduce operational costs, which means reducing services, so against that landscape I consider 90 minutes acceptable. I think we all need to get used to this time warp as being the new normal. And it was not a waste of my time because I organised myself to have something to do whilst waiting. It's about you getting organised before you call and getting your mindset right that this will take a minimum of one hour, which is totally acceptable for any Government Department.

I just registered all mine, after bring a K95 back from Canada, and triggered an event.
First call on Monday, at 8:30, had problems with the online registration, so had to get them to manually enter, dozen done in an hour, with half that time wasted trying to find the problem with the online register. Had two left in the shed, called Tuesday an hour wait, once sumone online done in ten minutes.
Both staffers quick and helpful.

I will not be "getting my mindset right" or accepting "the new normal" if it means that it takes over an hour to interact with their system just to notify the transfer of a firearm.
Even if you accept the premise that the register should exist, which is highly debatable, to administer the system in such a user-unfriendly way is malicious.
I personally know of multiple people who have spent WEEKS trying to get through but can't because they only have a small window during their lunch breaks to sit on hold.

Na. The system they implemented is trash. And we have to pay for it. They should be called out on it at every opportunity.

We only put up with it, because fine tuning, laying people of and making the others work in a well constructed, fat removed
environment, as other businesses have to to survive. Would be seen to be very unfair

Nah I call bollocks to that! By and large government departments are significantly over staffed with many inefficiencies within their operational processes. They need to be cut back and streamlined but I don’t think the middle and upper management within the organisations have the skills or the motivation to do it as they are happily sucking on the tax payer tit. They should be held accountable just as they would if they were in the private sector.

All the staff I have dealt with have been efficient.
The problem always has been that you cant get to talk to them......
Imagine if the Fire Service or Ambulance where that useless .....

Hey, no you don't need to specify ammo on the registry. It's just it's an activating event which means if you have firearms not on the registry but buy ammo you will be get an email telling you to register them. if you have them

If I am paying for a service, I expect that service to work

90mins is not a service working, 8mins is a service working

Just wait til it blows out to 120mins, 240 mins - at what stage would you say the system is fucked? two days waiting on the phone?

In my opinion it would be an activating circumstance and you would need to make a declaration that you do not possess any firearms.

My firearms license expired on the 15th of the month. Today I got a missed called, unknown number. Then a message from the firearm authority, asking when they could call back. Got a call this avo, asked if I knew my licence had expired, and was I going to renew it. Replied yes to both, she asked when I was going to apply as I had quite a few registered firearms. Said I’d already applied, way back in July, did you do it on line, no I didn’t have a Realme. Well I can’t find an application, I said, ask the AO, I dropped the hard copy to him. Hold, I’ll be back, yep found it. I’ll arrange an inspection. Just as well they’re on the ball!

Clearly it is your fault for not being intuitive enough to preempt that the paper based application would be misplaced. Ha ha ha ha glad you have it sorted.
