I just use one of my walking poles. Don't put anything at the top to protect the fly as the handle of the pole is nice and soft anyhow. Yeap could comfortably sleep 2 people so heaps of room for me...

Cactus if you want a simple pack. I have a Foray and huntaway and can't fault them. A little heavier than some of the modern stuff but there built tough.
