The old 70s issue gold crowns were made in Japan. Think they were steel and meant to be relatively robust cost effective scopes but the glass not up to the level of the better ones.

Gee that's a bugger. Especially for some of the older good scopes. Pita to send them back to factory but from what I hear the likes of Kahles etc. do a very good job

Just to piss you off I think the 1.5-5 on the 416 is a matte jobbie. Good little scopes. I reckon a firefox ( never used one but a fan of the concept like my oeg) would work well with my left master...

There is a p14 bsa sporter in 45/70 in retardme at the moment. 100 year old rifle with a 150 year old cartridge but it isnt a sharps. That would be quite a cool one
