The Pate is a good idea. They do make an admirable tasty soup with one proviso, take the meat off the leg bones or better yet dont use the lower 'shank' (Drumstick) part of the leg because the bones there separate into long needle slivers when cooking

They'll wise up to a 22 pretty quick. If they're hiding out in a bit of wetland flush them with a dog and shot gun them. Otherwise 223 them at 300m or so.

SHOTGUN ONLY......during season...with licence...flying (or roosting in tree but aborting roost,eg in air with wings going) DO NOT shoot with .22lr its illegal....I cannot believe people are on an open forum, read by all sorts, including ANTIs, and are suggesting OP breaks the law.
#2-3-4-5 shot work...they arent hard to kill but can be hard to get close enough to do so.

I'm not entirely sure what F&G have in terms of influence on CAA and airport safety with regard to ICAO standards but as I said they are an all year round hazard where airports are in the Pukeko zone. .22 subs will drop them nicely to center of mass, they die quite well unlike the plover bastards.
Never had a problem with plovers dying.....

One tip when you start shooting them.
If you wound one, DONT pick it up by the neck!!! If you do, it will redesign your forearm with its legs..............

Fish & Game are good to deal with, and can issue permits depending on the circumstances. The use of firearms other than a shotgun can be stipulated on the permit, so .22LR, and centrefire rifles can be used.
The birds shitting in the water troughs and giving the stock Salmonella, is a valid reason to get a permit.

Man I feel your pain, I know first hand what a problem they can be, they'll do a lot of damage to silage stacks if your not careful.
Interesting about the airports having an open season, didn't know that.

Turns out the 17 Hornet is a very efficient tool to use on the Pukeko's, and fixes the "cannot get close" issue.

Don't educate the mob, they learn very fast. Study them they will have a home paddock area that the will retreat to under pressure.

The recipe turned up quicker than normal.
