with experience you will get pack weight down....one really good trick is to unpack when get home and take note of what WASNT used...next time your packing...look at your list again..... not saying go unprepared, but work out how little you can be comfortable with.
or share the two dozen speights sitting on top yuk yuk

I struggle with this one. My water weighs 3kg, food another kg, knife 700g, PLB 300g, sleeping bag 1lkg. You get the picture.

Identify your target beyond all doubt because you never miss (right?) and I'll be missed.

Surely you’re taking the piss ? Why carry water at all when the back country’s full of it.

You don't drink while doing a 7 hour hike? I'd prefer not to get giardia while in the bush.

10kg sounds incredibly light. How is that possible? My overnight hunt is usually 18kg if staying in a hut or 22kg if staying in a tent.

I will write a gear list of what I take. If your packs that heavy there’s a lot of unnecessary gear in it.

Just remember, this is a thread for a beginner hunter!

Knowing what to take, and knowing how to cope with less gear only comes with experience. We all probably started off carrying too much stuff and slowly whittled it down.
(Also remember what you take depends on where you are hunting, e.g. SI tahr hunting needs different gear to NI bush stalking).

I flew into nz early in Dec and my pack with no food was 15 kg. I think my pack is way too heavy, it's a stones ck, 60lt +10. I'm thinking of downsizing to a ali foil sleeping bag and a 40 Lt pack, will try that if I come over this summer.
