Yep believe so. Shortish fellow. Bit of scottish blood in him by the looks if ya know what I mean. Hamish I think it was? ... Shepards were on the hills about to start weining. Dont know if that influenced him. I thought having the decency and permitts would've been good enough.

Slightly off topic but does anyone know where you can get a back country hut ticket on North Shore Auckland. FCO are listed as sellers but when asked give you a confused look :s

I think Macpac shops sell them if you have one of them local. They used to anyway.

Cheers! I'll give em a call tomorrow, otherwise I'll be putting a bivy up somewhere by the looks over the next few days.

You'd think it would be a bit more convenient for a JAFA like me aye?

It is about time they (Doc) bought in an online system for hut tickets. We stopped off at Murupara on our way in last week only to find the office is only open from 10 -12 weekdays.

Rusky, I have four that you can have. I have had them for years and can't see that I will ever use them now.

Plenty of times in the past when DOC offices have been closed on my way there I've just stayed in the hut anyway and bought the tickets out of honesty later. These days I usually have an annual hut pass so don't have to worry about it

I've been confronted once by a ranger in my over 25+ years of hunting and I did have a permit on me at the time.
I personally think they are a waste of time and paper

The online system for hunting permits pretty much defeats the purpose of the whole thing...

I NEVER buy hut tickets.. And will never buy in the future
We pay our taxes to the govt. and then a govt dept wants to charge for using something it's spent my money on?
    Foreigners defiantly, but not kiwis
For those that will whinge about it, cry me a river...
We probably single handily saved a historic hut in St James over the years by taking in materials etc to patch it up every time we were there. It's now being restored by DOC which is nice as it's over 110 years old.
So there... I've paid my dues

I don't see why I should pay for hut passes down my way seeing as doc don't maintain the huts....we do, they don't want anything to do with them and all they want to do is pull them down.I still don't get how employees tell there employers were to go and still have there job:thumbdown::confused:

My attitude towards DOC was jolted yesterday when I had to pay a visit to a local joinery workshop up here in lil old Whitianga. The door was partially blocked by a huge pile of slabs of 21 mm marine plywood that was cut into aprox 300 x 200 mm boards. I asked the owner out of curiosity what they were for and was a little surprised by the answer.
Order from DOC to make rat traps to go out to (privately owned) great Mercury Island. He had been contracted to simply cut the sheets up to manageable sized pieces to fit onto the charter boat, and was very happy to be getting $80 an hour to do it.

Now they (DOC) have at least two boats up here, but still charter a local to transport people and materials out to the islands instead of making use of their own resources.
The owner of GMI, Sir Michael Faye, has started a campaign to get his island pest free, and I commend that. But I dont see how jo blo should be footing the bill to such an extent.
And ...21 mm ply for rat traps?? Seems a bit OTT to me ffs

Yep I only use 12 mil ply for my deer shed shield for stags in full antler. They are a little big bigger than a mouse so I thought. Perhaps the GMI mice have big teeth if 21 mil ply is needed.
