    Bushpig rifle build

    Hi guys,
I'm looking for advice on a Bushpig style short barreled rifle build. I currently own a Tikka T3 7mm08 but from what I've seen and heard people have much better results cutting short a 308 rather than 7mm-08 for ballistics and 7mm-08 needing 20" for the bullet to be more stable.
I'm trying to decide whether to try cutting down the 7mm-08 or selling it and buying a 308 to cut down. Keen to hear peoples thoughts.
    Cheers

7-08 will do it at "bush" ranges just fine. The deer won't be able to tell the difference.

The stability issue is rubbish. An 18" 7/08 is great and can be used on everything close and out to 400 yards or so. 3k from 120's and 2.8K from 140's. Use 145's and 160's too if you want.

The difference between the 7/08 & 308 cut short is negligible. Don't hesitate, just do it and don't blind yourself with anxiety caused by people who own neither.

Methinks the proper old technical term is "carbine". Bush carbine if you will. A short(ened) rifle that is not a pistol.

They're just giving you a hard time, because they're old and stubborn.

But they're right. Anything will work in the bush, and out to 300m for that matter. No need to get hung up on barrel lengths, ballistics etc,etc unless you're shooting long-range. In which case you'll be doing so much practice & experimenting at the range anyway, that you'll probably come to your own conclusions.

My current bush pig sports a 24" barrel, and it's chambered for the best cartridge in the world. The .270 Win.

You youngen's like bush pigs of the human kind to ah @Frodo
You seen Deliverance- "squeal like a pig boy"

Anyway - call them what you like but I will NEVER call a rifle I own a "Pig"
Plenty else out there you can put the name too that is more warranted

Bush pigs have two legs and are usually what you take home after 5 or 6 jugs.

Stick with the 7mm08 just cut it to 17 or 18" load either 120 or 140 Nosler B Tip you don't need a 308.

So , how long does a “Carbine / Pig” barrel have to be before it transitions into a rifle ?
