The VX5/VX6 is better in every single way than the VX3.
Ignoring the zoom range the glass and FOV are hugely improved.

But you are correct in saying you don't need a huge zoon range if you have a good a fOV.
The Vortex AMG is only a 4x zoom range but is immensely popular due to all the other specs, the main thing that makes it a viable option is the huge FOV, the AMG has a wider FOV on 6x than most competing scopes on 5x.
