I picked this Lithgow SMLE No 1. MK III* up from a forum member.
I’m going to debubbfy it, ie restore it back to full wood.
As you may know, the replacement SMLE wood is hard to find.
I have a repro set on order and a permit request in for the missing parts.
In the meantime I took it to the range yesterday and fired it for the first time.
First iron sights shot with factory S&B 150gn softpoints was 2 inches left and 1 inch low.
The rain then came down and my next shots dropped a bit, but she’s going to be a good’un.

Sako L461 action has been cerakoted not the original vixen barrel but is a borofs steel sako one think I'll get it cerakoted to match. I had forgotten how nice the vixen is!! I've always been a fan of the A series but think the L461 is just that bit more special.

Not new, I've had this Tikka M595 in 284win for a few years now but havnt used it for some time. I use to run mag fit 150gr NBTs at 3k as a do it all hunting load and it worked very well.

I've just got it back together after getting the FIL to rethread the muzzle and fit a T2 muzzle brake to it, in preparation for playing with some 180gr eld-m's.

This chamber has always been throated pretty long. I can seat the 180s right out in the neck only no problem at all, giving me maximum powder capacity, obviously single feeding thou.

Quickload indicated that RE26 will get the 180s going pretty well from the 22 inch barrel, approx 2850 fps. So I've got some coming.....

In the meantime the 2nd best powder according to my modeling in QL was the good old IMR 7828ssc which I have and use in other cartridges with heavy for cal bullets.

I loaded up a 5 round ladder test in .5gr increments up to 58gr.

Today I got to fire them over the chrony and it's showing some promise.

58gr was too hot with a slight ejector stamp and giving 2840 fps.

I had another 3 rounds loaded at 57gr which I fired at 300 yards, which printed right on 2 inch in reasonably bad mirage.

    They were doing 2795 fps.

Pretty reasonable LR ballistics for just 57gr of powder and a 22 inch barrel I reckon.

The ballistic chart is assuming 600m elavation and at a muzzle velocity of 2795 fps. 1,350 ft lbs and 1,800 fps at 1000 yards is pretty impressive I reckon.
