I have this exact issue with a VX5HD, and also the elevation turret doesn't click like it use too.
Leupold arent made in the USA anymore they are just assembled with a combination of Chinese and Japanese components. This is the last Leupold for me after I get it sent off for repair.
Had a pair of Leupold binos that I took in to H&F Ballingers for repair just recently, not a great deal of damage to them. Got a phone call two weeks later that they'd got them back so I popped in and got given a brand new pair in a box.
Happy days
Same Leupold replaced 2nd hand purchase off Trade me with updated model that was 3x the price of original purchase. Happy Chappy. I'm a Leupold influencer now
I don’t get why people rave about the warranty service, or Leupold’s in general for that matter.
I have never said ‘thank god that’s covered by warranty’ after they have let me down or ruined a trip, quite the opposite!
Id sell my VX6 if I could be bothered sending it away to have the spec removed (again), but then I wonder if I could sleep at night without feeling guilty.
Well I only have bottom teir Leupold...I know they will do the job asked and realistically, for the same dollars I haven't found another brand as reliable. I killed many many scopes before putting Leupolds on my rifles... Yes I sent one back after 25 years of faultless service...but it was not new when I got it and had sticky turret then....that issue went away but I guess after another twenty years without turrets being touched,it got stuck/ sticky again lol. To me they are the Toyota corolla of the optics world. I could not justify spending $3000 on a scope any more than $100,000 on vechile.
75/15/10 black powder matters
My Leupold BX 4 10x40 range finder binos played up a week ago, I pushed the button to activate the RF - the digital read out was very faint and despite the fact they are barely a year old (I bought them new) I just assumed the battery was flat maybe.
Put a new battery in and nobody home, tried a 2nd battery and still no one home.
Even got wifey involved thinking I must be doing something wrong.....still no go.
I took them back to H&F last weekend and they sent them to Leupold in Rolleston, if they couldn't sort them then they were being sent to Leupold Sydney.
Got a phone call from H&F this morning.....they couldn't repair them and there is a brand new pair at the shop waiting for me to pick up.
Identical experience here. None of my cheaper scope have lasted long. Even a not so cheap weaver. Plenty of trips ruined. Fuel, time, lost.
I've replaced all my scopes with lower priced Leupolds over last 3 years. New and used. No way I can justify paying twice the price for a scope than the rifle is worth.
Hears hopeing.

A bit more bang is better.
I have a VX3 which has been sent back twice for the same issue, failed again when it came back the second time, had a few hassles with the store I returned it to. Just bad luck to get the one off the line, which is the shit one, but the experience has put me off Leupold as a brand. I guess I should send the bloody thing back again but just do not trust it anymore.
Have an S&B which had a manufacturers fault, took 4 months to get back, nothing from the manufacturers, though they may have at least sent me a note explaining the issue and maybe a sorry as it is a top-of-the-line scope. It did get fixed, so they got one up on the Leupold.
A year or so ago now, my nephew was using my old 4x leupy that had seen many years of use but had fogged up. Took it into local H@F shop who said no worries we will send it away . Cant remember where they sent it back to, but after a month or so got it back , good as new or so we thought till we went to sight it in on nephews
gun again and found the elevation and windage turrets were put on back to front. The elevation turret was on the side of the scope where the windage turret should be and windage turret on top, really had us scratching our heads till we worked out the problem. Anyway we got the scope sighted in which should've been ok for a set and forget scope but it fogged up again so Nephew went and bought a new Freedom 3-9 scope and has been a happy chappy ever since !!!
It's a shame they have gone a bit naff so to speak. I remember talking to richard Wilhelm back in the late 90s about a Burris signature he sold me. He spoke very well of the glass used in them. They apparently had a slightly less stringent QC system but they used that money for better materials. They only batch checked.
Leupold at the time checked every single scops. Not quite as good optically but failure rate very low. @Hunter2 does that sound right?
