Two points.

As far as calbres go, you have pretty good variety already. If you really dont want to get 'another of what you have' then I would suggest different actions rather than calibre. If the ones you own are all bolts, look at a lever or single shot. I did that with a Ruger #1 and never looked back.

As for the gains from 30/30 to 45/70...as one fellow taught me....with the 45, you dont have to look for your deer- its right where you left it. Meaning it goes Boom , flop. Big hole, big drop. It is not 100% but the 45/70 in a lever I think would stand apart from your others.

I like the 6.5x55 but as mentioned, your 7x57 is in their as well. 308 & 30/06 are close enough to the same as well. The only cal choice you do not have covered is the 223. or .222.

Otherwise have a look for a single shot like Baikals that can be broken down into a back pack for ease of carry. Or simply start searching through what is for sale..at some point something will jump out and say "buy me..."

Having hunted here & around the world for 30+ years, on my Bush Pigs l prefer something not overly bulky or over powered, so a good quality variable scope with 1.5- 2X for use in the scrub up to 15 X powerish max,if you look on the forum you will see good quality scopes,rifles etc coming up at what are bargain prices (but you must be quick ).As with everything it really depends on personal preference & budget .

Even though l really do not need a new scope l am looking at one of these Delta Titanium HD 1.5-9×45 offered by a Forum member who is the NZ dealer ,he also has a range shoot coming up at the end of the month & offering to forum members to have a try at various scopes he has on offer on supplied rifles,it may be a good experience & chance to meet local hunters/shooters if you can make it .

But like l say if you have the patince you will see good quality second hand scopes ofered on this forum especially after the Covid lock downs have affected peoples work/income.

If you look through threads here on the forum you will see what various experinced NZ hunters have decided on as their ideal NZ rifle for various situations .

A: A really really big hole right where you were aiming. Also the satisfaction that you aren't wishing for more of anything (except range, but that's for other cals)

I can avoid bush hunting here in Central so couldn't possibly comment on the 45/70 haha.
I like my 270, one day I hope to be good enough and use a 223 like Thar does.

You've got a good spread of calibers already, especially in the mid range do all big game hunting. Something cheap to run for plinking and small game is missing .223 covers this and can be used for most big game, just more limited in shot options.
Other gap is for a bigger long-range hunting rifle, something like a 6.5prc or 7 mag with a 15x or more scope. But it's not going to be any better than your 7x57 for most situations.

Here are a couple of good quality suitable scopes that have just been reduced, for sale on the forum, matched with that rifle l already pointed out & you have a very good cheap set up .

Geez , I envy you mate... Some of the places in doc we tried hunting here even the mighty 45/70 is redundant. The bush is that thick by the time you're able to see any animals you're close enough you can just stick em with a knife.... Lol

Thats why Bayonets were on SKS all those decades ago......Sneak through scrub with rifle pointing forward, get charged by boar, boar impales onto bayonet, pull trigger , boar dies, you stop and clean your undies then clean the pig......

I've literally shot a pig out of fright. Crawling on hands and knees through a little tunnel in the scrub, noises everywhere. One of the killer 200lb boars I had seen appeared in front of me and was shot at less than 1m in self defense.

The pig that lay dead looked remarkably like a 40lb boar for a 200lb killer.
