The TAC A1 isnt really the type of gun you would be walking around with and shooting off-hand, its more the sort of thing that would mostly only be shot prone, or with a good rest.
A TAC A1 would usually get a bigger more tactical style scope, as opposed to some of the smaller, lighter, more carry-around hunting rifle type of stuff that has been suggested here, as usually it would almost only ever be shot prone, so a big heavy high magnification scope is usually the choice for such a piece.

I guess you really need to decide what you want to do, walk around hunting, or more long range / target shooting type stuff. If walk around hunting, well tbh, you've chosen the wrong gun, but should probably get a smaller lighter scope to keep the package weight slightly manageable. If you want something that's actually a good match for that gun, then ideally you want something with a 30+ mm tube, can dial accurately, and more than 15x magnification on the upper end, imo.

edit; didn't realize this thread was a couple years old

Bro there’s a delta Stryker and a vortex razor fs on this forum. That rifle deserves some long range loving.

Even with out long range experience, that rifle will easily shoot out to 400m in still conditions.

It’s probably a bit heavy and slow to be a bush rifle.

With those two things in mind I’d go a 3-15 VX5

Interesting choice. The VX5 is legendary. But it is more of a do everything scope and not a more dedicated longer range scope of the type you would normally see on a 12lb rifle which is more dedicated to longer range shooting. I would be looking for something with a minimum of 18x to 24x and not worry too much about the bottom end. 4x to 6x on the lower end will do the trick for the rare occasions its needed. Will be picking up my TAC A1 on monday and putting a Delta 4-24 x 50 on it.

Ive got a Nightforce SHV on my one.

    Nightforce rings.

This rifle is too heavy and clumsy for bush hunting. Its more useful in a longer range sniping role. Ie 'trapping' - letting your target animals walk into a ranged area and taking them from a good rest.

The rifle is incredibly accurate, especially with sako factory ammo.

What ever you do dont scrimp on the rings. Best scope in the world is useless if you cant hold it in place consistently.

Def a jack of all trades but sounds like thats what cj0819 is after, something getting out to 400 but also suitable for bush. I’d say he’ll get sick of carrying a 12lb rifle for bush stalks and get a 308 or magnum which the 3-15 is well suited for, or will want a long range rifle and the 3-15 will also do okay at. I would rec the delta 4-24 but for me 3 is the highest minimum mag. id go for in the bush.

I like those Tikka tac rifles but they are more of a PRS rifle. It will be pretty heavy for a hunting rifle unless you're doing short walks and mainly staying stationary. I wouldn't put anything too heavy on it. You might end up buying a lighter rifle for hunting later on after a few hunts.

I use a little suppressed 16" Browning X-Bolt for hunting with a swaro z6i 1-6 anyone could shoot a deer at 300 yards with that setup, you don't need a really high powered scope for the distances you're talking.

Zombie thread! I've been guilty of this... Recently sent a pm to a member about something they were looking for 4 years ago. Only realised after re-reading the original thread!
