Merino is very warm, too warm for some.

Underarmour ColdGear & Heat Gear are good, I used both as well as icebreaker merino longs.

I always wear pants all year round though, never shorts.

If you can find some try the bamboo fibre ones. Naturally anti-microbial/bacterial and just scrub in a creek and dry to "wash". My ones are Ridgeline I think and wasn't too painful $$$wise for a pack of top and trou. Probably quite a few making them though. Not as warm as Merino but I can't see much in it.

Finally! Someone else that wears trousers and doesn't run around the bush looking like a demented grandad with shorts over holey long johns.

Yeah I've always worn pants. There are so many awesome options now. Super light weight, comfortable, no restrictions.

Check out Firstlite corrugate, Sitka mountain pant, kuiu tiburon

You just like rocking the long john look with your spider legs Gibo.
