I like my Gerber drop point folders a lot, but don't use them much anymore. Would agree, they are not particularly small or cheap. Good knives though and would serve as a main hunting knife. I've found they are easy to get razor shark, but lose their edge after about one large animal.

If your carrying just one knife, small can be overrated. I’d prefer light. The gator is not heavy and not too small. $100 is not to dear. I can get 2 deer easy and blade is still good. USA made knives.

Fair point. I just like smaller knives. Feels more controlled. Horses for courses I suppose

No one knows more than me, that knives can get under your skin. (no pun intended)
But, at the end of the day, they're probably the least important part of your kit.
So long as it's sharp, any old bread and butter knife will suffice.
Although there's no arguing, top quality steel is best for the longer trips, and later on in ones hunting career, pride of ownership takes it's hold

No truer word spoken,I have had a knife made for me and one for my 12yr old son,I’m starting to get a bit long in the tooth now so hopefully when I’m long gone he will look at these knifes and think of me.Name: image.jpg

I bought my Mercator knife in the early eighties, it butchered every deer I’ve shot and helped Puffin with a few of his. There are better knifes out there but Im not interested, buy the best knife you can afford and it’s value will be in its history. Someone will have to pry mine out of my cold dead hands.

I have Mercator as spare knife, just find they get real slippery in the hand once they get blood on them .

I know of a deer that was gutted with a sharpened teaspoon, but the guy that did that now has something a bit better.
If you want a nice knife, and the rent/mortgage is paid up, please yourself.

You still won’t get it out of my cold dead hands. There are much better options now but not for me.

I took one on my small fixed bnt models last deer hunt. Honestly was pretty amazed how effective it was for something that only has an 8cm blade

I have a friend who did a Sika with the lid off his Tuna tin when he released he’d left his knife behind

    I use a Gator and carry a Mercator as a spare/lunch/camp knife
