Sheifield do a knock of Mercator, about $14 at mitre10, holds a good enough edge and sharpens quickly on a steel.

@Dan88 never mind, was looking at Bunnings, not mitre10. Now I can replace mine

If your carrying just one knife, small can be overrated. I’d prefer light. The gator is not heavy and not too small. $100 is not to dear. I can get 2 deer easy and blade is still good. USA made knives.

No one knows more than me, that knives can get under your skin. (no pun intended)
But, at the end of the day, they're probably the least important part of your kit.
So long as it's sharp, any old bread and butter knife will suffice.
Although there's no arguing, top quality steel is best for the longer trips, and later on in ones hunting career, pride of ownership takes it's hold![]()

I bought my Mercator knife in the early eighties, it butchered every deer I’ve shot and helped Puffin with a few of his. There are better knifes out there but Im not interested, buy the best knife you can afford and it’s value will be in its history. Someone will have to pry mine out of my cold dead hands.
Remember the 7 “P”s; Pryor Preparation Prevents Piss Poor Performance.
I have Mercator as spare knife, just find they get real slippery in the hand once they get blood on them .
