I have been using the 42L tashev as a hunting daypack for about a year having finally worn out my huntech 45. The day pack is way more scratchy but is nice and light , more comfortable than a huntech and seems robust so far. If I were looking at something like a huntaway but was on a budget the 60L version (page 1) could be worth a look. https://bootsandgear.com/index.php?r...path=64&page=2

Having 2 on each it locks them so they don't slide. There's a fair bit of room in them. One has my range finder, ammo etc, other my PLB headtorch, knife etc.

Sorry late post... Which ones are they exactly? And how did they attach? Has the cactus got molle attachments?

    Cheers

No worries. Is the small ones. Only used one on each pouch. I used it to stop the pouch sliding forward as such. The pack has a wide 50mm strap, not molle. I have attached photos best I can to show. They also come with 2 attached webbing strips. I have used this set up alot and haven't adjusted them once. I carry my PLB rangefinder ammo head torch etc in them

or if your after something smaller....

the platatac mk2 is excellent. There out of stock at the moment, but its generally not long before there back in stock. From memory there about $300 odd landed? They also do specials at different points through the year.

I’ve got both the Cactus foray and huntaway, the set up on the foray doesn’t really allow you to add pouches as the 50mm strap is not exposed on the hip belt like the huntaway. I’m sure cactus would sew on a molle attachment if required though.
    Hope this helps

Another vote for the huntaway, love mine. Also have a foray which i managed to add one of the the bushlife pouches onto the hipbelt, it seems to work well.

I'm trying to decide over a Macpac Cascade, Osprey Aether or Tatonka Bison. The Cactus Foray is way out of my budget. Next trip to Christchurch I will try them all as you can get them all at Tower Junction.

I used a Torre a few times years ago and found it wasn't good for me. I don't like that extra piece stuck on the back.

I've been using the Mackhor 35 lt for day and 1-2 night trips. It's not the lightest and probably not as robust as say a twin needle MollyMe.
However it is quiet, has lots of pockets for stuff you want during a hunt and I really like how the back of the pack is held off you back which makes it much cooler and nicer to wear in summer.
